Auxiliary aids for disabled persons wishing to participate are available upon request at least 96 hours in advance of the event. If a notice of less than 96 hours is received, the City will attempt to provide the aids. Ò»¨¬ ß¼ª·­±®§ п®µ­ ݱ³³·­­·±² Ó»»¬·²¹ ѽ¬±¾»® ïèô îðïð SEPTEMBER 2010 DEPARTMENT HAPPENINGS STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY IMAGE AND SENSE OF PLACE th Eagan Market Fest has come to a close for the season on September 15. Feedback was positive and attendees are excited it will be returning in Summer 2011. Lone Oak Days Fall festival at Holz farm will be held Saturday and Sunday September 25 and 26, from 11:00am-4:00pm on both days. Many activities are planned and we hope to see crowds like last year, when 1,209 enjoyed the event over the 2 days. The Eagan Tribute & Memorial Plaza being constructed adjacent to the new pavilion in Central Park is nearing completion. A dedication ceremony is planned for 4:30 PM, Thursday, October 14. The event is open to the public. After some weather and material delivery delays, the exterior of the new Festival Grounds Pavilion is nearly complete. Some interior finishing will be completed this fall/winter by Park staff in anticipation of opening for use next spring SUPPORT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Bids were opened for a dry land training space in the Civic Arena on September 14. Bids were excellent and a recommendation to award the bid will be considered by the City Council on September 21. PROMOTE HEALTH AND WELLNESS Fall softball is winding down with one week left and a couple of rain outs. Fall sports are underway for basketball, flag football and volleyball. There are currently 153 teams registered between the four sports. Winter sports information will be available in October with registration in November. A paved pedestrian trail along Gold Trail, connecting the Cedar Grove redevelopment area to lower Woodhaven Park is nearly complete Out of the nine 55+Senior fitness classes that started in September, 5 are full with wait lists. rd The ECC hosted a fitness member appreciation day on August 23 to thank members. Healthy snacks were provided and members had an opportunity to provide feedback. A new service is being implemented at the ECC fitness center; Posture Alignment Training. This pay for service will be performed by staff who have specialized certification. This service will compliment the overall personal training program. New free weight strength equipment was installed at the ECC fitness center as part of the replacement and renewal plan during the building shut down. There will be a fitness center open house Sept. 22-24 to allow people in the community to experience a complimentary workout. Following, there will be a membership promotion Sept. 24- Oct. 4 in which the enrollment fee will be reduced to $15 from $69. th Who Done It Hike was September 12 in conjunction with SORR (South of the River Recreators). Approximately 170 people participated in the hike. th Fall skate school began the week of September 13 at the Civic Arena. PROTECT ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES yet 3 FACILITATE COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS 9:30-11:30. Preschool classes, music classes, Art house opportunities, birthday parties and Preschool Open gym were all showcased. Close to 100 people came to take advantage of the free opportunity to play! The Annual 55+/Senior Corn Feed was held at Holz Farm on September 1. Participants enjoyed great food, tractor hay ride and tours by the Friends of the Farm. PROVIDE RECREATION EXPERIENCES Fall Preschool Classes began on Monday, September 13 and over 200 children are registered. The process of replacing and renovating the large playground area at Trapp Farm has begun. The project will include two new playground structures, new decking, benches and landscape. Completion this year is hoped for. The process of shutting off water at park sites has begun. Restrooms are now closed except for scheduled activities. It takes 4-6 weeks to shut down all sites and irrigation systems for the winter. After School programs at Dakota Hills Middle school will start the second week in October. Innovative thinking by middle school and recreation staff went into planning a program since after school busing was eliminated. Another successful Cascade Bay season has come to a close. Details of the season will be shared with the Commission in October. 4
