(2) 1 3/4" x 11 7/8" LSL header was installed in lieu of the steel beam. Assuming a 1700 ksi E value for the LSL, an additional 1 3/4" x 11 7/8" LSL will need to be added to the existing 2 -car Garage door header to keep the deflection below acceptable limits for brick. The steel angle on which the brick sits should be bolted through all 3 plies of the header for adequate brick support. In addition, there is brick over a turned gable condition above Bedroom #2 that needs to be addressed. The typical EXT -45/D-9 detail cannot be installed to support the brick without bolting to the existing gable end truss, which is not designed to support brick load. In lieu of using the EXT -45 detail, install a (3) 2x8 beam (Hem Fir #2 or better) over BR#2. The bottom of the beam should bear on the top plates of the existing side walls of BR#2. Install (2) 2x bearing studs at each end of the beam in the second and first floor walls to transfer the load to the foundation. Above the beam, build a sloped rake wall (2x6) to the underside of the sloped steel angle that will support the brick over gable. A (3) 2x8 rafter may be used at the top of the rake wall (between the rake wall and the steel angle) but is not required. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call.
