The format has been changed to meet the ever changing needs of our growing community. Several classes from the Spring /Summer brochure have filled. The remaining classes are listed on pages 3 -18. New summer offerings are listed on pages 19 -25 and fall programs on pages 26 -43. Take some time to become familiar with the new format as you plan your summer and fall. Parks & Recreation Offices 681 -4660 Happenings Hotline 681 -4670 (recorded message) YOUTH SPORTS Youth sports are handled by associations run by parent volunteers to provide fun and competitive sports opportunities to the youth of Eagan. The programs are typically designed for children in Kindergarten and older. Some of the sports offered include track, soccer,baseball, wrestling, lacrosse, softball, basketball and travel sports. Should you be looking for this experience for your child, the following recorded message may be of help. There are three school districts within Eagan; ISD 191 (Eagan, Burnsville, Savage), ISD 196 (Eagan, Apple Valley, Rosemount) and ISD 197 (Eagan, West St.Paul). Programs such as swimming, youth programs and adult education programs are some of their many offerings. Lebanon Hills Regional Park and Schultz Beach are two located in Eagan. If you're planning to visit any of Dakota County's facilities you can get specific information by calling: Dakota County Parks 438 -4660 EQUAL ACCESS POLICY RECRE4T/dN PROGRAMS Auxiliary aids for persons with disabilities wishing to attend or participate in City of Eagan recreation programs are available upon request at least 96 hours in advance of the event. If a notice of less than 96 hours is received, the City will make every attempt to provide the aids. However, this may not be possible with short notice. Information on recreation activities, park facilities and announcements of special events are featured on Local Government Access Channel 16. Learn about electrical dangers, fire safety and bike safety. Water safety, proper use of helmets, and the Air National Guard Drug Program are all part of the camp. Recreation breaks will happen throughout the day. Members of the Eagan Fire, Police and Parks & Recreation Departments are co- sponsoring this exciting program designed to have fun while learning. Participants will take part in intense drilling, conditioning and training in strategy. The opportunity to enter several metro area and state tournaments will be provided. The activity meets a minimum of two mornings each week. Playing in tournaments will add additional time commitments. The lead coaches are from Eagan High School Varsity Tennis. This beautiful setting is located in the southeast corner of the City alongside Holz Lake. Currently, about 8 acres are owned by the City to utilize for educational, historical and entertaining activities. In 1996, efforts began to restore the house, barn and outbuildings to the 1940's era. Due to the well-worn condition of the site, there is still a long way to go. The "Friends of the Farm" group has been formed to expedite progress with fund- raising, restoration and programming. The Thomas Lake pavilion features similar openness and the room to spread out. The feeling of seclusion is surprising in our suburban setting. The Blackhawk Park pavilion overlooks Blackhawk Lake and provides excellent views of the Minnesota River Valley. Open space for picnic games, walking trails, and a large fire ring are features of this facility. The pavilions will accommodate groups as large as 150 people. Picnic necessities such as water and electricity are available in the pavilion. Restroom facilities are nearby. Events can be planned for half or full days. Electricity, hot and cold running water and restrooms are features in all facilities. Trapp Farm's shelter also has a fireplace, which adds a special atmosphere. The skater will leather rather than vinyl provide stronger ankle support. Blades should be high tempered steel rather than aluminum and should be properly sharpened. Double runner skates are not accepted. It is important that skaters be warm comfortable and have freedom of movement while skating. Dressing in layers will provide the most comfort and mittens or gloves should be worn by everyone skating. Bike or hockey helmets are required for Snow Pups, Polar Cubs and Snow Seals.
