LOCATION: EAGAN, MN 55122
SUMMARY:
HVAC TESTING METHODS.
USE NEBB PROCEDURES FOR TESTING CONSTANT VOLUME HVAC SYSTEMS.
RESTROOM EXHAUST FAN:
USE NEBB PROCEDURES FOR TESTING OF CONSTANT VOLUME EXHAUST FANS
KITCHEN MUA and EXHAUST FAN (HOOD SYSTEM):
- Enclosed hood sheet should be used to figure both supply and exhaust values.
- Record the Exhaust filter sizes from left to right within the hood canopy filter bank.
- Mark the appropriate corrected area (given in the table on the bottom left of the hood form) next to each filter
- Using a velgrid (with standard spacing) measure the velocity of each filter with the velgrid centered on each filter.
- Record each velocity for the previously recorded filters.
- Multiply each filters velocity by it's corrected area to find and record the volume (cfm) of each filter.
- Add all filter CFM's and record. adjust the exhaust flow until the unit is within +5% deviation (do not leave the fan lower
than design).
The MUA may be read by taking a total line traverse and/or by taking the same velgrid device and profiling the velocity
along the bottom face of the supply plenum.
- The correct area factor is then to be used to provide a Volume reading using the average velocity (provided on the hood
worksheet.
- A final smoke test is to be performed with all equipment set in its proper place and set to approximate cooking
temperatures. Smoke test confirmed 100% capture.
For proper cooking temperatures (guidelines if operations is not available to set proper temperatures)
- Have operations or General Contractor ignite all pilot lights.
- Allow this to remain on (with the hoods fans) for 30 to 40 minutes before testing so that the surfaces becomes hot.
- Perform smoke and containment test.
Outdoor air dampers for both RTUs had problems staying in set positions. Balancer set correct positions and observed a
few hours later that outside air dampers were not staying in position and had reset to a position where excess outside air
was being taken in. Positions were reset to correct postitions and appeared to be staying in position. Positions were
verified to be correct immediately before space pressure measured.
The burner dp from the MUA indicates that the MUA is taking in a higher value than recorded at the PSP.
The dish hood was found to be doing only 244 cfm when the speed tap was set to medium and the speed dial set to the
highest position. On the high speed tap the motor was found to be over FLA until the dial was set to the maximum position
which gives a cfm value of 736. The unit was left at 736.

(1] does not adversely affect space pressure. Fan requires high speed wire, set to high dial position to reduce amps below full load rating. At medium speed, the
fan under performs.

FUNCTIONAL TEST FOR WITNESS SIGN-OFF
1) Hood System Performance Test: Smoke test shall be performed with cooking equipment "on" using a
smoke bomb (or puffer) as required. Test required for each hood or section of hood.
This is to certify that GREG PROWELL completed a smoke test of the hood systems located at
Tester (print name)

by BRAD BREY GENERAL CONTRACTOR I have witnessed the smoke test of the
(test witnessed by (print namettitle)
hood systems and the hoods captured 100 % (Percent) of the smoke.

2) Building Pressure Test: Building to be completely sealed (typical), all ventilation systems in operation,
and all doors and windows closed. Technician to record a pressure with respect to the outdoors at the back
door and at the front door. The pressure must fall between 0.00" w.c. to +0.02" w.c. (or pressures per the
intent of the design documents).

TOTAL VOLUME CALCULATED BY TOTALLING THE RETURN AND OUTSIDE AIR VALUES. THE OUTSIDE AIR WAS READ THE
STANDARD WAY WITH A VELGRID AND THE RETURN WAS READ BY BLOCKING OFF 5 INCHES WITH CARDBOARD AND
PUTTING THE FLOW HOOD OVER IT. THIS METHOD WAS USED BECAUSE THE DUCT RUN IS TOO SHORT AND TURBULENT
TO GET ANY ACCURATE VOLUME TRAVERSES. TOTAL VOLUME = 1023 RETURN +2090 OA. THIS TEST WAS DONE PRIOR
TO OA BEING SET TO DESIGN.
K CALCULATED BY DIVIDING THE TOTAL VOLUME BY SUM OF THE AVERAGE MEASURED VELOCITIES.
