STAR GAZING
THURSDAY, APRIL 30, 1987
7:30 P.M. - 10:00 P.M.
Enjoy a springtime evening of star gazing with David Mandt, a member of the
Minnesota Astronomical Society. You will see firsthand through a telescope,
late -spring and early -summer constellations such as Leo, Hercules, Bootes and
Ursa Major (The Big Dipper). Mars, the moon, nebulars, galaxies and star
clusters may also be seen. Slides of Jupiter, Saturn and other constellations
will be shown.
This special event will be held at Trapp Farm Park from 7:30 P.M. - 10:00 P.M.
No fee is charged, however participants are asked to call or mail in their
registration by April 23, 1987 so that we know how many participants to
expect.
SPECIAL NOTE: In case of a cloudy evening, the program will be rescheduled.
EAGAN FUN RUN
The second annual Eagan Fun Run will be held on May 2, 1987. Eagan's run is
the kick off event of the second annual Groundpounders Grand Prix series. The
cities of Apple Valley, Burnsville, Lakeville, Farmington and Rosemount will
also host runs in the series. Eagan's race begins at Trapp Farm Park, one of
Eagan's newest parks, and offers a two-mile and five -mile run. Both runs
begin at 8:00 A.M.
Prizes will be awarded to male and female contestants in the following age
categories: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50 and over.
Preregistration will be accepted until 4:00 P.M., April 24, 1987. The fee for
this event is $7.00 if paid during preregistration. The fee on the race day is
$9.00. An Eagan Fun Run t -shirt is included in the fee.
Forms will be available at the Eagan Municipal Center, 3830 Pilot Knob Road,
beginning March 14, 1987.
EAGAN FUN WALK
(A PASSPORT TO GOOD HEALTH)
A walking program will begin on May 2, 1987, along with the second annual
Groundpounders Grand Prix/Eagan Fun Run.
The Eagan Parks & Recreation Department, in conjunction with Walk Minnesota,
is promoting walking as a means of achieving a healthy life-style. On May 2nd
the opportunity to start a walking program in Eagan will begin. Trapp Farm
Park will be the beginning and ending point for this walk. Short, medium and
long distance walks will be offered.
Participants can choose a distance that is comfortable and enjoy a springtime
day in Minnesota.
Registration forms will be available beginning the week of April 2, 1987 at
the Eagan Municipal Center. Registration need not occur until the walk day.
A fee will not be charged, however participants are asked to fill out the
registration form and bring it to Trapp Farm Park on May 2.
More details regarding the Eagan walk program will be available at the May 2
walk.
EGG COLORING/COLORING CONTEST
Come and color Easter eggs with the Easter Bunny! An egg coloring party for
boys and girls ages 3-12 will be held on Friday, April 17, 1987.
This special event will take place at the Rahn Park Building from 10:00 A.M. -
11:00 A.M. and at the Goat Hill Park Shelter Building from 1:00 P.M. - 2:00
P.M. Participants must call in or mail their registration by Monday, April
13 to:

Participants are asked to bring their own hard-boiled eggs to color (maximum
of 6.) The Easter Bunny and his helpers will be on hand to help children
color their eggs.
Along with the egg coloring party, a coloring contest

BABY-SITTING CLINIC
The Eagan Women's Fire Auxiliary and the Department of Parks & Recreation will
co-sponsor a baby-sitting clinic. Boys and girls, ages 10 and older, who
have baby sitting responsibility at home or for other children, should attend.
The topics covered during the clinic include first aid, the basics of child
care, safety concerns and the "how to" of baby-sitting.

DOG OBEDIENCE
Beginner and novice dog obedience training is offered this spring. The
handler may be an adult or youth eleven (11) years old or older. Dogs must be
a minimum of nine (9) months old to train effectively.
Novice training is for dogs which have previously completed beginner classes.

TINY TOTS RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Tiny Tots is a program for children ages 3, 4 & 5. Activities such as crafts,
story telling, singing, field trips and special events with am emphasis on
large and small group play are conducted. Children should dress in play
clothes, prepared for indoor and outdoor activities.
Sessions are held in the Rahn Park Building and Community Room of the Fire
Administration Building.

JUNIOR TENNIS
Junior tennis is scheduled to provide a new activity for boys and girls in
grades 4 - 6 this spring and summer.
It all begins with a series of after school free clinics at the elementary
schools this spring. Tennis rackets and balls will be provided.
A phone call to Parks & Recreation at 454-8100 will reserve a spot at one of
the clinics.
