ADJOURNMENT Next meeting- February 21, 2002 (7:00) The mission The mission of the Waste Reduction and Recycling Advisory Commission is to proactively assist the Eagan City Council by educating, encouraging and assisting the community in reducing and managing waste in an environmentally sound manner. MEMO TO: MEMBERS OF THE EAGAN WASTE REDUCTION & RECYCLING ADVISORY COMMISSION FROM: COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR FOOTE DATE: JANUARY 10, 2002 SUBJECT: EAGAN ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING OF JANUARY 17, 2002 A regular meeting of the Eagan Waste Reduction & Recycling Commission will be held on Thursday January 17, 2002 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Please contact Joanna Foote at (651) 681 -4604 by Tuesday, January 15, to indicate if you cannot attend. I. ROLL CALL AND ADOPTION OF AGENDA ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THIS ITEM: approve, deny or modify agenda II. APPROVAL OF NOVEMBER 20 MEETING MINUTES A copy of the minutes of the Waste Reduction Commission meeting of December 20, 2001 is included as an attachment. ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THIS ITEM: approve, deny or modify December 20, 2001 minutes. III. VISITORS TO BE HEARD V. ORGANIZATIONAL BUSINESS A. Recognize Outgoing members FACTS: The terms of members Patricia Hurd, Ron Moening and Don Armborst, will expire following tonight's meeting. The Commission will wish to recognize those who may not be returning. V. NEW BUSINESS A. Discussion Regarding Armor Waste Hauling (5:40 -6:15) FACTS: The City received a report that Armor Waste Systems, a licensed commercial waste hauler within the City of Eagan, has been picking up waste in a residential townhome complex without holding a required residential hauling license. The report also indicated that Armor was not abiding by the City's daily hauling schedule (Monday, Wednesday, Friday pick -up areas). Upon meeting with a representative of the company, the City Clerk indicated that Armor needed to abide by the City ordinance and immediately discontinue operations in residential areas. The Armor Waste Systems representative brought forward a number of questions and concerns related to the City's waste hauling ordinance and whether or not all of the eight (8) currently licensed residential waste haulers are actually servicing residential accounts. He would like to address these questions and concerns to the Commission. ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THIS ITEM: Draft and adopt a recommendation to the City Council regarding hauler concerns. B. Recycling Coordinator Updates (6:15 -6:35) 1. Community Room Remodeling Project 2. 2002 Recycling Guide 3. Recycling Container Purchases 4. Greeting Card Recycling ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THESE ITEMS: Discussion only. VI. OLD BUSINESS A. Green Building Discussion (6:35 -7:00) FACTS: A letter discussing the Commission members' questions regarding the architectural bid specifications and process for the Community Center /Central Park project was drafted and sent out for review by members. A copy is included as an attachment. The members may wish to discuss this further and staff will provide any update which may have become available by meeting time. ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THIS ITEM: Discussion VII. ADJOURNMENT Next meeting- The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held February 21, 2002 and will be the first meeting of the 2002 Commission year.
