ADJOURNMENT Next meeting — JUNE 29, 2000 ** * This meeting will be televised "live" on cable channel 16 ** Meeting changed from regular schedule by members request and will be held at the Dakota County Eco -site/ Gopher Resource The mission The mission of the Waste Reduction and Recycling Advisory Commission is to proactively assist the Eagan City Council by educating, encouraging and assisting the community in reducing and managing waste in an environmentally sound manner. MEMO TO: MEMBERS OF THE EAGAN WASTE REDUCTION & RECYCLING ADVISORY COMMISSION FROM: COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR FOOTE DATE: MAY 11, 2000 SUBJECT: EAGAN ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING OF MAY 18, 2000 A regular meeting of the Eagan Waste Reduction & Recycling Commission will be held on Thursday may 18, 2000 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the Eagan Municipal Center. Please contact Joanna Foote at (651) 681 -4604 by Tuesday, may 16, to indicate if you cannot attend. I. ROLL CALL AND ADOPTION OF AGENDA (5:30 -5:32) The agenda, as presented or modified, requires adoption by the Commission. ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THIS ITEM: approve, deny or modify Agenda II. APPROVAL OF Thursday April 13, 2000, MEETING MINUTES (5:32 -5:35) A copy of the minutes of the Waste Reduction Commission meeting of February 17,2000 is included on pages _ to . ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THIS ITEM: approve, deny or modify Minutes III. VISITORS TO BE HEARD iv. INFORMATIVE (5:35 -5:40) EARTHDAY RECAP The annual Earthday Celebration took place on Sunday, April 30 and was a great success. The weather was wonderful, approximately 250 people participated in the event. Garbage clean -up was done along the route of the Earth walk route where approximately five good -sized bags were filled. Lunches were served in flower pots made from recycled materials with reusable napkins. Displays were provided by a variety of City departments and local companies. Participants planted bulbs, seeds or tree seedlings in their-planter pots to take home. Thank you to Commission members Petrilli, Hurd and Merkel who assisted with the event and to chair Patraw who attended. ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THIS ITEM: None V. OLD BUSINESS A. 2000 COMMISSION MEETING SCHEDULE (5:40 -6:45) The Commission discused its 2000 meeting schedule at its March and April meetings. Included on page is the meeting schedule as refined by the Commission. ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THIS ITEM: Adopt 2000 meeting schedule. B. 2000 -2001 GOALS (5:45 -6:30) The Commission discussed a variety of interests and possible goals for 2000. Staff has refined that list as requested, suggested sub - committee groupings and developed a possible timeline. The goals and proposed schedule are included it on page to . ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THIS ITEM: Adopt Goals. 1. Identify Sub - Committees Based on the goals determined for accomplishment in 2000 -2001, the Conmmission may wish to follow the lead of most other City Commissions and develop sub - committees of the whole to work toward further outlining, developing workplans and accomplishing goals. The goals have been categorized into three topic areas, the Commission may wish to consider a sub - committee for each goal area or it may develop other catagories. ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THIS ITEM: Adopt sub - committees. 2. Identify participation at summer events. Also within the Commission goals is the desire to create a visible presence at community /city sponsored events. The Commission may wish to determine which events it would like to participate in, determine volunteer availability and recommend general programming/participation ideas. ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THIS ITEM: Adopt list of events for Commission participation/ Visibility of reduction messages. ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THIS ITEM: Determine member /volunteer participation. ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THIS ITEM: Recommend general programming/participation ideas VI. NEW BUSINESS A. HAULER SURVEY (6:30 -6:59) 1. Development 2. Administration/Timeing The Commission requested that a hauler survey again be developed and administered in 2000. Included on page _ is the hauler survey conducted by Burnsville, Apple Valley and Eagan in late 1998. The Commission may wish to suggest information to be solicited, timing and administration for the survey. ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED ON THIS ITEM: Recommend hauler survey, timing and administration. VII. ADJOURNMENT—NEXT MEETING (7:00) The next meeting of the Commission is scheduled for Thursday, June 29, 2000 at 5:30 p.m. at the Dakota County Eco -Site.
