Hedges City Administrator COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE MEETING SEPTEMBER 5, 2012 4:30 PM CONFERENCE ROOM 2A&B AGENDA I. AGENDA ADOPTION II. REVIEW 2012 DRAFT COMMUNITY SURVEY III. OTHER BUSINESS IV. ADJOURNMENT From: COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR GARRISON Date: August 29, 2012 Subject: Draft 2012 Eagan Residential Survey Attached is a draft of the 2012 Residential Survey prepared by Decision Resources which includes questions Eagan (and other cities in the region) have asked historically for tracking and trend purposes, plus those local questions developed specifically for Eagan. The timing of an early September Communications Committee meeting is very good, because our residential surveys are typically pre - tested and fielded this time of year in even years, to fall in between the primaries and general election polling residents typically receive from other sources. I welcome any suggestions the committee might have and am familiar with the League of Minnesota Cities questions which we have typically asked separately, but could be asked in this instrument. Regarding retail and restaurants, questions 90 -95 focus on that specifically, but could be added to if something is missing or needs to be asked a different way than we have historically. For the committee's benefit, Decision Resources conducts a telephone survey with a random sample of 400 Eagan residents spread across all precincts of the city with an equal amount of female and male participants. Phone interviews, because of the length of the survey, are prescheduled to a convenient time for the resident. Results are accurate to a 95% degree of accuracy, or put another way, with a +/- 5% margin for error. Below is an index of the categories for the 144 question survey, which may help you more quickly review areas of interest. The survey costs approximately $20,000 to conduct.
