09/13/1971 - Advisory Parks & Recreation Commission
SPECIAL JOINT MEETING BOARD OF SUPERVISORS,
FIRE CHIEF, AND PARK DEPARTMENT REPRESENTATIVE
TOWN OF EAGAN, DAKOTA COMITY, MINNESOTA
September 13, 1971
There was a joint meeting of the Eagan Board of Supervisors, Fire Chief,
and the Park Department Representative on Monday, September 13, 1971.
Those present were Klein,•Rahn, Uselmann, Fire Chief Schultz, Polzin,
Barbara Schmidt, Jerry Adam, James Olsen, Bob Rosene and Paul H. Hauge.
Chairman Klein indicated that the main order of business was to review
the proposed bond issues for utility purposes, parks, and fire hall for
the Township. It was estimated that for utility contracts being
processed or awarded a total of $1,700,000.00 would be necessary through
approximately June 1972. The Park Board indicated that approximately
$500,000.00 would be needed according to the recommendation of the Park
Commissioner and the Park Planner for park acquisition and initial improve-
ments, with $341,000.00 estimated for land acquisition and $159,000.00 for
park improvements.
The Fire Department indicated that it has become urgent that a new fire
hall be acquired because the temporary rental location may not be available
much longer. The estimated cost of the building would be from $105,000.00
to $120,000.00 and the election under the special law passed for Eagan
Township on the bond issue rjo finance such fire hall was discussed. There
was considerable discussion concerning the advantage of having bids received
by the time of the election or advertising before"the election so that the
voters could possibly know the estimated cost of the building and more
importantly that the foundation be constructed prior to freeze-up during
the current fall season.
After considerable discussion upon motion by Uselmann seconded by Rahn
aye Klein it was RESOLVED that an election to be held by the town electors
concerning whether bonds should be issued to finance the construction of
the fire hall in the manimum amount of $120,000.00 be scheduled for October
14, 1971, beginning at 7:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. at the respective polling
places.
The Eire Departmett was further directed to set-up an advertising program
for the bond issue election and further to attempt to acquire a committment
for the land from Rauenhorst Corporation. The Town Board further determined
that an informational meeting concerning the bond issue election would be
scheduled for Q:00 p.m. on October 5, 1971, at the town hall at the time
of the regular meeting.
It was further tentatively determined that an issue of bonds for general
utility purposes be scheduled for sale during October 1971 and that the
issue for park and fire hell bonds be scheduled for November 1971.
Upon motion the meeting adjourned.
