Historic Holz Farm and Friends of the Farm
4665 Manor Drive, Eagan, MN 55123
Take a nostalgic walk into the past at Holz Farm, a 1940’s era family farm acquired by the
City of Eagan in 1995 to actively preserve the rich farming history of the area. The farm is
located in the southeast corner of Eagan, alongside Holz Lake. Currently, the eight acres
owned by the City are used for educational, historical and entertainment activities. In 1996,
efforts began to preserve and protect the house, barn and outbuildings that are examples
of the 1940’s era. A Master Plan for the site was completed in 2003. As of June 2007, the
farmstead has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Join Friends of the Farm
Friends of the Farm, a non-profit land steward-
ship organization staffed by volunteers and
dedicated to cultivating an appreciation of farm
life. This group was formed to help preserve and
restore Holz Farm.
Friends of the Farm plans and conducts a wide variety of activities and events that provide
educational, entertaining, historical and cultural perspectives appealing to a wide range of
interests and ages. Help is needed in the areas of education/teaching, farming knowledge,
tour guides, grounds maintenance, painting, clean-up days, interpretation of 1930’s and
1940’s farm implements and planning of special events.
If you are looking for a rewarding experience with other committed volunteers who believe
in preserving our heritage, educating students of all ages, connecting the past with the
present, building community pride, and providing a historical resource for the ever-chang-
ing world around us, we would like to hear from you. For more information, contact Eagan
Parks & Recreation at (651) 675-5500, TTY (651) 454-8535 or check out www.cityofeagan.

Welcome to Preschool
The City of Eagan Parks & Recreation Department welcomes you and your pre-
schooler to a wide selection of quality preschool programs. Eagan Preschool
Program’s focus is on the social development of children ages two through five
years old. Participants will benefit by developing their social skills through play,
art projects, stories, songs, games, and outside play. Participants also have the
opportunity to develop their independence, self-help and sharing skills and learn
to follow directions. Teachers are experienced instructors committed to offering
your preschooler a positive experience and providing support for your child’s first
school years. The program has been serving the community since 1978 and con-
tinues to provide quality programs and new opportunities for all participants. Each
year new classes begin in January, March, June and September.
Please Note
• Due to the popularity of our preschool program, classes tend to fill up quickly. Wait
lists will be maintained in a manner that accommodates participants new to the
program.
• A scholarship fund is available for participants under age 18 to provide financial
assistance for Eagan residents to participate in Eagan Parks & Recreation sponsored
programs. The scholarship covers 50% of the program fees with a maximum of $200
per year per participant. A scholarship form must be completed at the time of
registration and submitted to Eagan Parks & Recreation, 3830 Pilot Knob Road. In
addition, time payments are also available to pay for any youth programs offered by
Eagan Parks & Recreation. A staff member will work with you to set-up a payment
schedule that fits your needs. For additional information, please contact Eagan Parks
& Recreation at (651) 675-5500 or www.cityofeagan.com and search scholarships.
• Equal Access Policy: The City of Eagan is committed to providing equal access to its
programs, facilities and employment without regard to race, creed, color, sex, nation-
al origin or handicap.
• Participants enrolled in more than one preschool class per session may experience
programming duplication between classes.
Eagan Parks & Recreation uses these guidelines to define who is a
preschooler for participation in our programs:
• Children who are the appropriate age stated in the class description.
• Children who are completely toilet trained and able to use the bathroom inde-
pendently. Children are required to wear underwear; pull-up type diapers are not
allowed.
• Bright Beginnings and Let’s Play! Music Together classes are for children who are the
age stated in the class description and accompanied by an adult. Toilet training is not
required for the parent/child classes and additional siblings are welcome, see each
class fee structure for details.
• Just for 5’s (and some 4’s, too!) class is for children that are the appropriate age to
enter kindergarten in the fall of 2013.

What is Adapted (Therapeutic) Recreation?
Adapted or also known as therapeutic recreation are special-
ized recreation programs that enhance the quality of life and
productivity by building social skills, self-esteem and inde-
pendence for youth with disabilities. Programs are led by
recreation staff with a history of working with youth who have
disabilities.
Prior to the start of programs, if you are a new participant, a
supervisor will contact the parent/guardian by telephone and conduct an intake assessment
to identify the participant’s abilities, needs, interests and goal for the program. At this
time, any accommodations, and/or adaptations if necessary will be discussed. All adapted
classes have a minimum number required for the classes to be held so register early.
Adapted Recreation programs are open to any child ages 6 - 13 years old who has develop-
mental and/or physical disabilities. The co-ed programs focus on 5-6 week sports develop-
ment sessions through sports such as Bowling, T-ball/Softball, Soccer, Basketball, Floor
Hockey, Yoga and other activities in a non-competitive environment. Through skill develop-
ment participants practice small and large motor skills, socialize with other youth and learn
the skills and rules of the game. Periodically, one day sessions on a variety of topics may
be offered such as fishing, hiking, or crafts. For most programs, parents/guardians or PCA’s
may participate in the program along side their child which are lead by recreation staff and
assisted by volunteers.

Reader’s Theater
Workshop
Adults & Teens 18+
Reader’s theater is often defined
by what it is not -- no memorizing, no
props, no costumes, no sets. Like storytell-
ing, reader’s theater can create images by
suggestion that could never be realistically
portrayed on stage. Space and time can be
shrunk or stretched, fantastic worlds can
be created, and marvelous journeys can be
enacted. Reader’s theater frees the per-
formers and the audiences from the physi-
cal limitations of conventional theater, let-
ting the imagination soar. This workshop
will involve the students in oral reading
through reading parts in scripts. Unlike
traditional theatre, the emphasis is mainly
on oral expression of the part. Reader’s
Theater is “theatre of the imagination.”
Ken Coy has been involved in community
theater in the Twin Cities for over 20 years.
His experience includes acting, directing,
play writing, stage crew and teaching.

Improv Workshop
Adults & Teens 14+
Many people grow up with
no exposure to public speaking
or stage performance, which can create
serious anxieties as they age, and make it
difficult to make presentations in school,
speak in public, or stand up for themselves.
Introduction to the stage can help allevi-
ate these fears and make people feel more
confident about their ability to perform
and speak in front of others. Additionally,
this workshop is designed to help people
tap into their imagination in many differ-
ent capacities, not just to play games, but
to create characters, and share their per-
spectives with friends. Ken Coy has been
involved in community theater in the Twin
Cities for over 20 years. His experience
includes acting, directing, play writing,
stage crew and teaching.

Robert believes that the viewer’s eye, heart, and soul should move through the painting,
joining in the movements and rhythms of a new world. Each piece starts as a meditation,
and grows through a conversation between artist and painting. A painting is done when
it has taken on a life of its own, and it lets Robert know that it is time for it to go. Robert
Najlis was born and trained as an artist in New York City. He currently resides in Buenos
Aires, Argentina.

Registration Deadlines
Registration deadlines are established for
each program to help provide a positive
experience for recreation program partici-
pants by ensuring appropriate staffing, sup-
plies and facilities to meet the registration
needs. Please refer to program descriptions
for each program’s registration deadline.
Transfers
Transfers will be made on a space available
basis generally only before the registration
deadline.
Wait Lists
Due to facility space and staff limitations,
many classes have registration limits. When
classes have reached their maximum regis-
tration, a wait list will be started.
You will remain on the wait list until the
class begins. If an opening becomes avail-
able due to a cancellation, it will be offered
to the first/next person on the wait list until
the opening is filled.
Every effort will be made to create addition-
al class sessions, and you will be contacted
if your registration is able to be accommo-
dated. Once the class begins, if we have
been unable to accommodate you, we will
return the fee(s) paid.
Program
Cancellations/Changes
Eagan Parks & Recreation reserves the
right to cancel, postpone or combine pro-
grams and change instructors. Registration
fees for programs cancelled by Parks &
Recreation will be fully refunded. All partici-
pants in cancelled programs will be notified
by Parks & Recreation staff. Programs may
be cancelled by Eagan Parks & Recreation
if enrollment is not sufficient to provide
an appropriate program experience to
participants or if enrollment fees are not
enough to cover program expenses. Once
a program is cancelled, every attempt will
be made to give at least 48 hours notice to
participants and a full refund/credit will be
provided. If it is a Monday program, notifi-
cation will be made no later than 4:30 p.m.
on Thursday.
Registration Information
Our department is committed to excellence. Your input in the form of suggestions or comments is valued and welcomed. It is our intent to
provide services that meet your expectations. If you are not completely satisfied with any of our services, please let us know. We will listen
and attempt to rectify any concerns you may have.
Refunds
If a participant cancels a registration
before the registration deadline, the reg-
istration fee minus a $5 processing fee will
be refunded. Refunds will only be made
due to prolonged illness or family emer-
gencies after the registration deadline
minus a $5 processing fee.
Confirmations
Letters of confirmation are not sent. You
can assume that you are in the class you
registered for unless you receive a call to the
contrary.
Registration
Registration for each session opens when
the brochure is distributed to the public,
unless otherwise noted. Please fill out the
registration form completely. Payment
can be made by cash, check made pay-

Scholarships/Time Payments
A scholarship fund is available for partici-
pants under age 18 to provide financial
assistance for Eagan residents to partici-
pate in Eagan Parks & Recreation spon-
sored programs. The scholarship covers
50% of the program fees with a maximum
of $200 per year per participant. A scholar-
ship form must be completed at the time
of registration and submitted to Eagan
Parks & Recreation, 3830 Pilot Knob Road.
In addition, time payments are also avail-
able to pay for any youth programs offered
by Eagan Parks & Recreation. A staff mem-
ber will work with you to set-up a payment
schedule that fits your needs. For addition-
al information, please contact Eagan Parks
& Recreation at (651) 675-5500.
Equal Access Policy
The City of Eagan is committed to providing
equal access to its programs, facilities and
employment without regard to race, creed,
color, sex, national origin or disability.
Auxiliary aids for persons with disabilities
wishing to attend or participate in the City
of Eagan recreation programs are available
upon request at least 96 hours in advance
of the event. If a notice of less than 96
hours is received, the City will make every
attempt to provide reasonable accommo-
dations.
Photo/Video Release
City Use of Images
It is recommended that a release be
obtained when photographing or videotap-
ing a minor (under 18). Parent or guard-
ian signatures are required; signatures of
minors are not sufficient. When images
are published, the City will take cautionary
steps to provide minimum identifying infor-
mation and will not use a specific street or
mailing address, e-mail addresses or phone
numbers. While signed release forms are
generally not needed when photographing
in public places, such as parks, this extra
step is being taken because the images
taken are intended for use in City publica-
tions and communications.
Data Privacy Act
In accordance with the Minnesota Gov-
ernment Data Practices Act, the Parks &
Recreation Department hereby informs
you that the personal information we are
requesting of you and/or your child or
guardian on our registration form is now
considered private. Private data is avail-
able to you and to City staff who need
to have this information to perform their
duties, but not to the public. While you
may choose to withhold this data, the con-
sequences could be that the City’s staff
may not be able to complete your registra-
tion and/or the participant may not receive
updated program information, such as
schedule changes.
Eagan Parks & Recreation periodically
takes pictures of participants in our class-
es, during special events and in the parks.
Please be aware that these photos may be
used in the City’s brochures, pamphlets,
or cable presentations. If you or your
family members do not want to be pho-
tographed or published you must give us
written notice.
Minnesota Concussion Law
A new law regarding concussions went
into effect on Sept. 1, 2011. This new law
sets into place policies and new standards
for educating youth athletes of head con-
cussions. It is aimed at preventing and
identifying concussions in youths partici-
pating in sports. The law applies to city-
sponsored youth athletics, youth athletic
association programs and regular school
sports programs. A youth is considered
through age 18. Eagan Parks & Recreation
is complying with this new law.

The Eagan Advisory Parks
Commission is a five member citizen’s
commission appointed by the City
Council. The commission reviews all
residential development proposals
for park dedication, trail dedication,
forestry and water quality/wetlands
requirements, reviews recreational
programs and activities and deter-
mines long-range planning objectives
for park acquisition and development.
The Commission meets bi-monthly
the Monday prior to the second City
Council meeting, at 7:00 p.m. in the
Council Chambers. If you have an item
that should appear before the Com-
mission, you may contact Eagan Parks
& Recreation at (651 ) 675-5500 to
coordinate.

Club Sk8: A Retro Dance Party on Ice
Take one part classic roller rink, one part dance club…put it all on ice and you’ve
got Club Sk8, the “coolest” new way to spend a Friday or Saturday night at the
Eagan Civic Arena.
Club Sk8 is a fusion of ice skating, stage lighting and a DJ playing a mix of the
hottest current music and favorites of the past. Drawings for prizes occur during
the night and everyone is encouraged to learn new moves and just dance, play
and have fun on the ice together.
All attendees must be on skates-bring your own or rent a pair for $2. Students
get a special discount on admission; $3 per student, $4 per adult. Club Sk8 ses-
sions are 90-minutes long and are scheduled every Friday and most Saturdays in
September, at varying times each night. Many evenings have two sessions sched-
uled but for a complete listing of Club Sk8 times go to www.EaganCivicArena.
