Historic Holz Farm and Friends of the Farm
4665 Manor Drive, Eagan, MN 55123
Take a nostalgic walk into the past at Holz Farm, a 1940’s era family farm acquired by the
City of Eagan in 1995 to actively preserve the rich farming history of the area. The farm is
located in the southeast corner of Eagan, alongside Holz Lake. Currently, the eight acres
owned by the City are used for educational, historical and entertainment activities. In
1996, efforts began to preserve and protect the house, barn and outbuildings that are
examples of the 1940’s era. A Master Plan for the site was completed in 2003. As of June
2007, the farmstead has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Volunteer for
Friends of the Farm
There are various programs and events
throughout the year at Holz Farm that need
energetic volunteers. If you are interested,
please call Eagan Parks & Recreation at
(651) 675-5500.
Join Friends of the Farm
Friends of the Farm, a non-profit
land stewardship organization
staffed by volunteers and dedicated
to cultivating an appreciation of
farm life. This group was formed to
help preserve and restore Holz Farm.
Friends of the Farm plans and con-
ducts a wide variety of activities and
events that provide educational,
entertaining, historical and cultural
perspectives appealing to a wide
range of interests and ages. Help is
needed in the areas of education/
teaching, farming knowledge, tour
guides, grounds maintenance, paint-
ing, clean-up days, interpretation of
1930’s and 1940’s farm implements
and planning of special events.
If you are looking for a rewarding
experience with other committed
volunteers who believe in preserving
our heritage, educating students of
all ages, connecting the past with
the present, building community
pride, and providing a historical
resource for the ever-changing world
around us, we would like to hear
from you. For more information,
contact Eagan Parks & Recreation at

or check out www.cityofeagan.com.

Eagan Municipal Center, 3830 Pilot Knob Road
Pre-registration required and open to all residents of Dakota County
Learn how to create a rain garden, native plant
garden or a garden to stabilize shore land,
which can benefit water quality on or near
your property. This free class is a great oppor-
tunity to learn how to attract more birds and
butterflies to your yard, how to contol where
water pools, wetland management adjacent
to your property or to problem solve solutions
for property surfaces that don't drain such as

A properly constructed rain garden can provide
a much needed water filtering area in a yard
where a large amount of hard surface exits and can play a big part in helping improve the
water resource within the entire city.
An additional hands-on project course, to be held two weeks after the initial workshop,
will cost $25. Attendees to the design class can apply for a $250 grant to help install their

Research shows that all children are musical. All children can learn to sing in tune, keep a
steady beat and participate in making music with confidence. We also know that children
learn best through play. Music Together® classes provide a rich environment in which
children can play and explore musically. You can nurture the musical growth of your child
regardless of your own musical ability by participating in Let’s Play! Music Together class-
es. Director Cheryl Hornstein and her teachers create a playful and fun atmosphere in
which both children and adults can find the music maker in themselves. Spring Let’s Play!
Music Together semester includes a 10-week session of 45 minute classes, 2 CD’s, song-
book and suggestions for musical activities at home. For more information on Let’s Play!

Preschool Dance
Ages 3-5
Your child will enjoy dancing while working on balance, posture and grace. All dancers will
be introduced to ballet, jazz and creative movement dance techniques while improving
their rhythm and coordination. Participants should wear leotards and dance/ballets shoes
or slippers. Dance shoes are very reasonably priced at Payless Shoes and also at Walmart
in the girl’s section. We are asking that the parents remain in the building, outside of the
studio during class time to help with bathroom breaks. For the safety and integrity of the
program, we need both of our instructors in the studio the entire class time.
Parents will be invited to a mini recital on the last day of class, all recital costume pieces
are included as part of the fee. A group photo of the entire class will be taken by Parks &
Recreation on the Saturday before the recital, and handed out on at the recital.

Start Smart
Ages 3-5 with an Adult
Come prepared to participate with
your child in this class! The first week
of class is a parent/teacher meeting,
children should begin attending with
their parents the second week of class,
June 20 Start Smart’s goal is to devel-
op a child’s basic interest in sports,
to increase their self confidence and
to help them find success in sports.
Parents work with their children in a
supportive environment to learn all
the basic skills for sports without the
fear of competition. Start Smart also
teaches parents how to be positive
sports parents and how to teach their
child basic sports skills by working with
other children and parents on teams
rotating through stations. Age appro-
priate equipment by Koosh ® is used
in teaching basic sports skills, and each
participant will receive their own bag
of equipment at the end of the course.
All equipment and curriculum is devel-
oped by NYSCA, America's leading
advocate for positive and safe sports
for children. Some team work games
and activities will also be incorporated
into this class. This is not an "observa-
tion" class, only the participant and the
participating parent need to attend.
Team photo will be taken August 1. All
will be invited for the big “game” and
award ceremony at the end of the ses-
sion.

Summer in the Park for Preschool
Ages 3-5
A little bit of ‘Summer in the Park’ combined with a Preschool Program! In our traditional
preschool class, class participants will experience the benefits of multi-age groupings. At
our preschool, children participate in a theme based curriculum that incorporates daily cal-
endar and weather time, singing songs, creating art projects, listening to stories, and large
and small group activities. Your preschooler will enjoy free-play time, calendar and weather
activities, art projects, play with friends, eat a snack, participate in “sharing bags”, play
outside and have a turn with take home book bags all focused around our theme based
curriculum. Just like Summer in the Park, a large portion of class time children will spend
playing actively outside every day, so dress for appropriate outdoor play!

QuickStart Tennis Lessons
Ages 5-10
Hey kids! There is no better time to start playing tennis than now! QuickStart tennis is a new and exciting format for learning the game of
tennis. The goal of the QuickStart Lessons is for kids ages 5-10 to build skills that enable kids to rally with a partner.
USTA (United States Tennis Association) created this format that caters directly to young beginning tennis players. To make it easier for
the youngsters to learn, the QuickStart tennis format changed the net size, the court size, the balls, the rackets and even the scoring
system to make it easier for younger players. The program is designed to help children succeed but also focuses on having fun through
games, relays and instruction. Participants are asked to wear tennis shoes, bring their racket and a water bottle. A limited number of rack-
ets will be available for those without one. Classes are held Monday - Thursday.
Lesson Description
Ages 5 & 6 This age group will work on developing the hand-eye coordination
necessary to improve tennis skills. Ball control and large motor
skills are a huge focus through games, drills and relays.
Ages 7 & 8 This age group will focus on being able to rally back and forth over
the net with both forehands and backhands. Fun drills and games
will help the children learn how to control the ball.
Ages 9 & 10 This age group will work on developing the skills needed both to
rally back and forth over the net as well as the skills needed
to play a mini tennis match.
Make Ups: One make-up day is scheduled each week in case of class cancellation.
Make-up for each week will be on the Friday of that week at the same time
and same location.

Park Ordinances
The City of Eagan has created a variety of ordinances that pertain specifically to its park and recreation areas. The ordinances are intend-
ed to protect the communities’ investment in the facilities, protect the natural resources and to help create a safe, healthy, and enjoyable
experience for all users. There are several specific sections of the ordinances that are often misunderstood or require regular clarifica-
tion. They include golf, alcohol, dogs and hours. Please visit www.cityofeagan.com for complete information.

Registration Deadlines
Registration deadlines are established for
each program to help provide a positive
experience for recreation program par-
ticipants by ensuring appropriate staffing,
supplies and facilities to meet the regis-
tration needs. Please refer to program
descriptions for each program’s registra-
tion deadline.
Transfers
Transfers will be made on a space available
basis generally only before the registration
deadline.
Wait Lists
Due to facility space and staff limita-
tions, many classes have registration
limits. When classes have reached their
maximum registration, a wait list will be
started.
You will remain on the wait list until the
class begins. If an opening becomes
available due to a cancellation, it will be
offered to the first/next person on the
wait list until the opening is filled.
Every effort will be made to create addi-
tional class sessions, and you will be
contacted if your registration is able to be
accommodated. Once the class begins,
if we have been unable to accommodate
you, we will return the fee(s) paid.
Program Cancellations/
Changes
Eagan Parks & Recreation reserves the
right to cancel, postpone or combine pro-
grams and change instructors. Registra-
tion fees for programs cancelled by Parks
& Recreation will be fully refunded. All
participants in cancelled programs will be
notified by Parks & Recreation staff. Pro-
grams may be cancelled by Eagan Parks &
Recreation if enrollment is not sufficient
to provide an appropriate program expe-
rience to participants or if enrollment
fees are not enough to cover program
expenses. Once a program is cancelled,
every attempt will be made to give at
least 48 hours notice to participants and
a full refund/credit will be provided. If it
is a Monday program, notification will be
made no later than 4:30 pm on Thursday.
Registration Information
Our department is committed to excellence. Your input in the form of suggestions or comments is valued and welcomed. It is our intent to provide services that meet your expectations. If you are not completely satisfied with any of our services, please let us know. We will listen and attempt to rectify any concerns you may have.
Refunds
If a participant cancels a registration
before the registration deadline, the reg-
istration fee minus a $5 processing fee
will be refunded. Refunds will only be
made due to prolonged illness or family
emergencies after the registration dead-
line minus a $5 processing fee.
Confirmations
Letters of confirmation are not sent. You
can assume that you are in the class you
registered for unless you receive a call to
the contrary.

Scholarships/Time Payments
A scholarship fund is available for partici-
pants under age 18 to provide financial
assistance for Eagan residents to partici-
pate in Eagan Parks & Recreation spon-
sored programs. The scholarship covers
50% of the program fees with a maximum
of $200 per year per participant. A scholar-
ship form must be completed at the time
of registration and submitted to Eagan
Parks & Recreation, 3830 Pilot Knob Road.
In addition, time payments are also avail-
able to pay for any youth programs offered
by Eagan Parks & Recreation. A staff mem-
ber will work with you to set-up a payment
schedule that fits your needs. For addition-
al information, please contact Eagan Parks
& Recreation at (651) 675-5500.
Equal Access Policy
The City of Eagan is committed to providing
equal access to its programs, facilities and
employment without regard to race, creed,
color, sex, national origin or disability.
Auxiliary aids for persons with disabilities
wishing to attend or participate in the City
of Eagan recreation programs are available
upon request at least 96 hours in advance
of the event. If a notice of less than 96
hours is received, the City will make every
attempt to provide reasonable accommo-
dations.
Photo/Video Release
City Use of Images
It is recommended that a release be
obtained when photographing or videotap-
ing a minor (under 18). Parent or guard-
ian signatures are required; signatures of
minors are not sufficient. When images
are published, the City will take cautionary
steps to provide minimum identifying infor-
mation and will not use a specific street or
mailing address, e-mail addresses or phone
numbers. While signed release forms are
generally not needed when photographing
in public places, such as parks, this extra
step is being taken because the images
taken are intended for use in City publica-
tions and communications.
Data Privacy Act
In accordance with the Minnesota Gov-
ernment Data Practices Act, the Parks &
Recreation Department hereby informs
you that the personal information we are
requesting of you and/or your child or
guardian on our registration form is now
considered private. Private data is avail-
able to you and to City staff who need
to have this information to perform their
duties, but not to the public. While you
may choose to withhold this data, the con-
sequences could be that the City’s staff
may not be able to complete your registra-
tion and/or the participant may not receive
updated program information, such as
schedule changes.
Eagan Parks & Recreation periodically
takes pictures of participants in our class-
es, during special events and in the parks.
Please be aware that these photos may be
used in the City’s brochures, pamphlets,
or cable presentations. If you or your
family members do not want to be pho-
tographed or published you must give us
written notice.
Minnesota Concussion Law
A new law regarding concussions went
into effect on September 1, 2011. This new
law sets into place policies and new stan-
dards for educating youth athletes of head
concussions. It is aimed at preventing and
identifying concussions in youths partici-
pating in sports. The law applies to city-
sponsored youth athletics, youth athletic
association programs and regular school
sports programs. A youth is considered
through age 18. Eagan Parks & Recreation
is complying with this new law.
