III. 2012-13 ADVISORY PARKS COMMISSION WORK PLAN
ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED:
To provide feedback and direction to the APrC regarding their 2012-13 work plan
FACTS:
On Monday, June 18, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. a workshop was help by the Advisory Parks
Commission to discuss their 2012-2013 work plan.
The Advisory Park Commission (APrC) is proposing the following work plan and goals for
2012-13.
1.)Recommend initiatives to the City of Eagan and its constituents for new park development
at the Nicols Ridge/Cedar Grove 3 acres site area to meet the needs of the surrounding
community.
2.)Recommend initiatives to the City of Eagan and its constituents for an active living
infrastructure. Conduct a joint meeting with the Energy and Environment Advisory
commission to discuss initiatives for street and trail improvements.
3.)Recommend initiatives to the City of Eagan and its constituents for healthy vending and
concessions policy to meet the health and wellness needs of the community.
4.)Recommend initiatives to the City of Eagan and its constituents for additional recreation
programs and facilities to .

Aworkshopof the Advisory Parks Commissionwas held on Monday,June 18, 2012at 6:00 p.m. Those
present wereCommission Members Laurie Halverson,Ray Hobot,Michael Palmer,and Andrea Todd-Harlin,
Matthew Steelewas absent.Also present was Parks and Recreation Director Juli Seydell Johnson, Paul Olson,
Superintendent of Parks, Marshall Grange,Eagan Community Center Fitness and Operations Supervisor,Amy
Grannes, Office Supervisor, and guest speaker Mary Montagnefrom Dakota County.
The Advisory Park Commission (APrC) is proposing to maintain the following work plan and goalsadopted
in June of 2012 to the commission:
1.)Recommend initiatives to the City of Eagan and its constituents for new park development at the Nicols
Ridge/Cedar Grove 3 acres site areato meet the needs of the surroundingcommunity.
2.)Recommend initiatives to the City of Eagan and its constituentsfor anactive living infrastructure.
Conduct a joint meeting with the Energy and Environment Advisory commission to discuss the
following:
Complete streetswhere needed
Enhanced walking and biking routes
Trail gaps –fill inwhere needed
Safe route to schoolinitiative
3.)Recommend initiatives to the City of Eagan and its constituentsfor healthy vending and concessions
policy to meet the following objectives:
Recommenda written policy
Utilize resources from Dakota County
Connect health to medicine
4.)Recommend initiatives to the City of Eagan and its constituentsfor additional recreation programs and
facilities to meet the following objectives:
Meeting our current demographics
Promotion of healthy/active living
Researching interest and feasibility of additional facilities such as indoor
tennis/indoor soccer.
