CITY ADMINISTRATOR SEARCH PROCESS UPDATE ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED: To select the City Administrator applicants to be invited for interviews on January 17/18. FACTS: • On September 19, 2012, the City Council authorized the retention of Brimeyer Fursman, LLC to serve as the executive recruitment firm to assist the City in its search for the next City Administrator. • Over the past two months, Richard and Irina Fursman have actively marketed and recruited for the City Administrator position. • There were 39 applications submitted for the position. Over the past two weeks, the Fursmans have further screened and interviewed candidates, and are now presenting 10 candidates for the Council's consideration. • On December 11, Richard Fursman will meet with the City Council to review the enclosed profiles and discuss the candidates' qualifications and backgrounds. • The candidates' names are considered confidential at this point. Mr. Fursman is suggesting that the City withhold naming the finalists until a major portion of the background checks are done. The names would become public sometime after the first of the year, depending on the availability of background materials over the holidays. • Given that the names are confidential at this point, each candidate has been assigned a number. Per Mr. Fursman's recommendation, the City Council should refer to all candidates by their number during the discussion on the 11th • Mr. Fursman has used this system in other communities, and will do his best to guide the City Council in this discussion. ATTACHMENTS: • Enclosed without page numbers is a binder prepared by Richard and Irina Fursman containing a cover memo and information about each of the 10 candidates being recommended for further consideration. 1
