FREE! Take a nostalgic walk into the past at Holz Farm, a 1940’s era family farm acquired by the City of Eagan in 1995 to actively preserve the rich farming history of the area. The farm is located in the southeast corner of Eagan, alongside Holz Lake. Currently, the eight acres owned by the city are used for educational, historical, and entertainment activities. In 1996, efforts began to preserve and protect the house, barn and outbuildings that are examples of the 1940’s era. A master plan for the site was completed in 2003. As of June 2007, the farmstead has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Join Friends of the Farm Friends of the Farm, a non-profit land stew- ardship organization staffed by volunteers, is dedicated to cultivating an appreciation of farm life. This group was formed to help pre- serve and restore Holz Farm. Friends of the Farm plans and conducts a wide variety of activities and events that provide educational, entertaining, historical and cultural perspectives appealing to a wide range of interests and ages. Help is needed in the areas of education, teaching, farming knowledge, tour guides, painting, grounds maintenance, clean-up days, interpretation of 1930’s and 1940’s farm implements and planning of special events. If you are looking for a rewarding experi- ence with other committed volunteers who believe in preserving our heritage, educating students of all ages, connecting the past with the present, building community pride and providing a historical resource for the ever-changing world around us, we would like to hear from you. Each week skaters will participate in a 30 minute off ice segment and 30 minute on ice segment. • On Ice – stroking edges, spins, jumps, artistry in motion and intro to team skating. • Off Ice – Proper warm-up, stretching, conditioning exercises and cool down tips. Family Discount The first two family members (living at the same address) pay full price; each additional family member (living at the same address) pays 1/2 price. The discount applies to only ONE class fee if the additional family mem- ber is taking multiple classes. NO family dis- counts are available on ISI individual mem- berships. Discount not available on-line. Refunds, Cancellations and Make-up Policy No refunds are issued after classes begin. Refunds will be considered on a case-by- case basis for skaters ages 3 and under. There are NO make-up lessons. Confirmation of Enrollment Confirmations WILL NOT be sent. You can assume that you are in the class(es) you reg- istered for unless you receive a call to the contrary. Recommended Attire We strongly suggest snowpants, helmets and gloves/mittens, especially for skaters ages 6 & under. We also recommend that newer skaters start in figure skates. Eagan Preschool Program’s focus is on the social development of children ages one through five years old. Participants will benefit by developing their social skills through play, art projects, stories, songs, games and outside play. Participants also have the opportunity to develop their inde- pendence, self-help, sharing skills and learn to follow directions. Teachers are experi- enced instructors committed to offering your preschooler a positive experience and providing support for your child’s first school years. The program has been serving the community since 1978 and continues to provide quality programs to the commu- nity and over 30 years of experience opportunities for all participants. Each year new classes and sessions begin in January, March, June and September. Eagan Parks & Recreation uses the following guide lines to define who is a preschool- er for participation in our programs: •Children who are the appropriate age on or before the first day of class. •Children who are completely toilet trained and independent in the bathroom. Children are required to wear underwear; pull-up type diapers are not allowed. Toilet training is not required for children registered in parent/child classes. •Bright Beginnings and Let’s Play! Music Together classes are for children who are the age stated in the class and accompanied by an adult. Additional siblings are wel- come, when age appropriate and additional fees paid as listed in the program. •Just for 5’s (and some 4’s, too!) class is for children who are the appropriate age to enter kindergarten in the fall of 2013. Please note: Due to the popularity of our preschool program, classes tend to fill up quickly. Wait lists will be maintained in a manner that accommodates participants new to the pro- gram. Participants enrolled in more than one preschool class per session may experience programming duplication between classes. The first week of class is a parent/teacher meeting. Children should begin attending with their parents the second week of class, June 19. Start Smart’s goal is to develop a child’s basic interest in sports, to increase their self confidence and to help them find suc- cess in sports. Parents work with their children in a supportive environment to learn all the basic skills for sports without the fear of competition. Start Smart also teaches parents how to be positive sports parents and how to teach their child basic sports skills by working with other children and parents on teams rotating through stations. Age appro- priate equipment by Koosh ® is used in teaching basic sports skills, and each participant will receive their own bag of equipment at the end of the course. All equipment and curriculum is developed by NYSCA, America’s leading advocate for positive and safe sports for children. Some team work games and activities will also be incorporated into this class. This is not an “observation” class, only the participant and the participating parent need to attend. Team photo will be taken July 24. All will be invited for the big “game” and award ceremony at the end of the session! Rain make up (if needed) will be held August 7. USTA (United States Tennis Association) created this format that caters directly to young beginning tennis players. To make it easier for the youngsters to learn, the QuickStart tennis format changed the net size, the court size, the balls, the rackets and even the scoring system to make it easier for younger players. The program is designed to help children succeed but also focuses on having fun through games, relays and instruction. Participants are asked to wear tennis shoes, bring their racket and a water bottle. A limited number of rackets will be available for those without one. This class is for beginner runners who have either previously taken the Beginner Running class or run a few 5K’s on their own. Class will have very little lecture with most time being spent doing an instructor led group run. Group led pace will not be faster than 10:30 min/mile pace and will use the run/walk method to increase running endurance and speed. Typical distance covered each class will be 2-3 miles. Class meets in all weather and participants should bring a cell phone and wear running clothes, shoes and a watch that allows monitoring running interval times. If you are new to the Women’s Running program, you will receive a tech- nical running t-shirt the first night of class. Women’s Beginning Running Ages 14+ Yes you can run! This women’s only class will give you the confidence and knowledge to become a runner as you work toward the goal of finishing a 5K race. Your instructor is an experienced RRCA Certified Running Coach and has completed 50 marathons. Each class includes a lecture and a running session. Class meets in all weather conditions. Wear running shoes and watch with a second hand, bring a water bottle and dress in layers for the weather. This class is for true beginners and follows an interval walk/run format that does not focus on running fast. Success is measured through being active, gradually running longer distances while having fun and meeting other new runners. Most participants complete a 5K run by the end of class. Prerequisite: Attendees should be able to comfortably walk non-stop for one hour. If you are new to the Women’s Running program, you will receive a technical running t-shirt the first night of class. Women’s Running Club Ages 14+ Back by popular demand, this group of women meet weekly to chat and run. Led by a RRCA Certified Running coach who has com- pleted 50 marathons, typical training runs will be 3-5 miles and may include introductory hill and speed building sessions. All speeds are welcome! Groups in the past have had wide range of runners representing paces from 9-12 minutes per mile each week. This is a great follow-up to the beginner running class. Class meets and runs in nearly all weather conditions. Please be on time as the group immediately takes to the road running varied routes each week. Runners should bring a cell phone, wear a watch with second hand and dress in layers for the weather. If you are new to the Women’s Running program, you will receive a technical running t-shirt the first night of class. If a notice of less than 96 hours is received, the City will make every attempt to provide reasonable accommo- dations. Photo/Video Release City Use of Images It is recommended that a release be obtained when photographing or videotap- ing a minor (under 18). Parent or guard- ian signatures are required; signatures of minors are not sufficient. When imAges are published, the City will take cautionary steps to provide minimum identifying infor- mation and will not use a specific street or mailing address, e-mail addresses or phone numbers. While signed release forms are generally not needed when photographing in public places, such as parks, this extra step is being taken because the imAges taken are intended for use in City publica- tions and communications. Data Privacy Act In accordance with the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, the Parks & Recreation Department hereby informs you that the personal information we are requesting of you and/or your child or guardian on our registration form is now considered private. Private data is avail- able to you and to City staff who need to have this information to perform their duties, but not to the public. While you may choose to withhold this data, the conse- quences could be that the City’s staff may not be able to complete your registration and/or the participant may not receive updated program information, such as schedule changes. Eagan Parks & Recreation periodically takes pictures of participants in our classes, during special events and in the parks. Please be aware that these photos may be used in the City’s brochures, pamphlets, or cable pre- sentations. If you or your family members do not want to be photographed or pub- lished you must give us written notice. Minnesota Concussion Law A new law regarding concussions went into effect on Sept. 1, 2011. This new law sets into place policies and new standards for educat- ing youth athletes of head concussions. It is aimed at preventing and identifying concus- sions in youths participating in sports. The law applies to city sponsored youth athlet- ics, youth athletic association programs and regular school sports programs. A youth is considered through age 18. Eagan Parks & Recreation is complying with this new law. For questions, support, or to make a request please visit our Citizen Support Center at www.cityofeagan.com/ citizensupportcenter. Eagan Parks & Recreation is dedi- cated to providing a wide range of recreational opportunities to meet the diverse interests of its residents. In addition, the safety and mainte- nance of each park’s infrastructure and amenities remains a high prior- ity. Under the guidance of the City Council, Advisory Parks Commission and dedicated staff, Eagan’s park system has become a benchmark for excellence for other communi- ties.
