Soils cansisted of a sandy clay taam, moist, but below optimum maisture. To assess the relative strength of the saiis, a 5/8th inch diameter smaoth probe was used to penetrate the excava#ion base, and proposed footing lines. With fuil body weight app(ied, the probes indicated only minimal penetratian, consistent with soils af acceptable consolidation. The sails were evaivated for bearing capacity at proposed grade, with a dynamic cone penetrometer per ASTM STP-399. The dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP}, employs a eight kilogram {17.6 pound) hammer to drive a 20 millimeter diameter conical point into#he soil, with the penetration recorded in millimetecs per blow. From the DCP readings,a perlbtow, penetratian average was recarded and a N-value derived. This N-value is an empirical relationship we have established to equate the dynamic cone data to the more familiar btows per foot(BPF)standard penetration soil baring test. Our observations and subsequent soit evaluatian for the project, is limited in spe to soii conditians observed within the comple#ed foundation excavation, and ta the depths achieved by shallow probes and dynamic cone penefrometer tests. Therefore, we are unable to assess sub-grade soils, which may be encauntered by barings conducted as part of a standard subsurface geotechnical Sincerely, Itco Allied Engineering Company Rsviewed By: j fi C .:C I Gary Standish Robert P.
