Take a nostalgic walk into the past at Holz Farm, a 1940’s era family farm acquired by the
City of Eagan in 1995 to actively preserve the rich farming history of the area. The farm is
located in the southeast corner of Eagan, alongside Holz Lake. Currently, the eight acres
owned by the city are used for educational, historical, and entertainment activities. In 1996,
efforts began to preserve and protect the house, barn and outbuildings that are examples
of the 1940’s era. A master plan for the site was completed in 2003. As of June 2007, the
farmstead has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Join Friends of the Farm
Friends of the Farm, a non-profit land stew-
ardship organization staffed by volunteers,
is dedicated to cultivating an appreciation
of farm life. This group was formed to help
preserve and restore Holz Farm.
Friends of the Farm plans and conducts a
wide variety of activities and events that
provide educational, entertaining, histori-
cal and cultural perspectives appealing to
a wide range of interests and ages. Help is
needed in the areas of education, teaching,
farming knowledge, tour guides, painting,
grounds maintenance, clean-up days, inter-
pretation of 1930’s and 1940’s farm imple-
ments and planning of special events.
If you are looking for a rewarding experi-
ence with other committed volunteers who
believe in preserving our heritage, educat-
ing students of all ages, connecting the past
with the present, building community pride
and providing a historical resource for the
ever-changing world around us, we would
like to hear from you. For more informa-
tion, contact Eagan Parks & Recreation at

Sunday, Dec. 1 Noon – 3:30 p.m. / Free
Celebrate the holiday’s 1940’s style with an Old Fashioned
Holiday Celebration. Remember a simpler time of singing carols
by the fire, making smores, the smell of cookies baking, hot
cider and time together making oranments by the tree. Bundle
up with warm winter gear and enjoy a winter hayride and out-
door activities. Kids are invited to write a letter to Santa at

longer and flatter blade assists in learning
to balance quicker. Skate & helmet rental is
available at the Civic Arena.

Preschool Locations
Welcome to Preschool
The City of Eagan Parks & Recreation Department welcomes you and your preschooler to a
wide selection of quality preschool programs. Eagan Preschool Program’s focus is on the
social development of children ages one through five years old. Participants will benefit by
developing their social skills through play, art projects, stories, songs, games and outside
play. Participants also have the opportunity to develop their independence, self-help, shar-
ing skills and learn to follow directions. Teachers are experienced instructors committed
to offering your preschooler a positive experience and providing support for your child’s
first school years. The program has been serving the community since 1978 and continues
to provide quality programs to the community and over 30 years of experience opportuni-
ties for all participants. Each year new classes and sessions begin in January, March, June
and September.
Eagan Parks & Recreation uses the following guide lines to define who is a preschooler for
participation in our programs:
•Children who are the appropriate age on or before the first day of class.
•Children who are completely toilet trained and independent in the bathroom. Children
are required to wear underwear; pull-up type diapers are not allowed. Toilet training is
not required for children registered in parent/child classes.
•Bright Beginnings and Let’s Play! Music Together classes are for children who are the age
stated in the class and accompanied by an adult. Additional siblings are welcome, when
age appropriate and additional fees paid as listed in the program.
•Just for 5’s (and some 4’s, too!) class is for children who are the appropriate age to enter
kindergarten in the fall of 2014.
Please note:
Due to the popularity of our preschool program, classes tend to fill up quickly. Wait lists
will be maintained in a manner that accommodates participants new to the program.
Participants enrolled in more than one preschool class per session may experience pro-
gramming duplication between classes.

Music Together for Babies!
Infants 0-8 months old with an adult
Let’s Play! Music Together is pleased to offer you the opportunity to
connect with other new parents and take the earliest steps for your
infant’s musical development!
Because the early months are so important, Music Together® offers two options for
babies. Babies with their parent or caregiver can take the special “Babies Class” offered
as a one-semester introduction to Music Together. (This class cannot be repeated.) Every
child’s development benefits from early exposure to music and movement. The music
activities and materials are specially designed for parents who want to learn as much as
possible about music development in babies. Meet other parents of newborns and learn
some fun, fascinating music activities you can recreate at home. Or, babies eight months
and younger at the time of registration may attend a Mixed Ages Class (see page 14),
whether registered on their own or attending free with an older brother or sister. Babies
Class includes a 9-week session of 45 minute classes, 2 CD’s, songbook and suggestions
for musical activities at home. For more information on Let’s Play! Music Together, visit
www.LPmusictogether.com. Let’s Play! Music Together is licensed by Music Together, LLC,

Children age birth-5 with an adult
Research shows that all children are musical. All children can learn to sing in tune, keep a
steady beat and participate in making music with confidence. We also know that children
learn best through play. You can nurture the musical growth of your child regardless
of your own musical ability by participating in Let’s Play! Music Together classes. Music
Together® classes create a playful atmosphere in which both children and adults can find
the music maker in themselves. Let’s Play! Music Together semester includes a 10-week
session of 45 minute classes, 2 CD’s, songbook and suggestions for musical activities at
home. For more information on Let’s Play! Music Together, visit www.LPmusictogether.

Women’s Beginner Running Boost
Ages 14+
Want support to get back into running or to get ready for a 5K race? This class is for
beginner runners who have either previously taken the Beginner Running class or run
a few 5K’s on their own. Class will have very little lecture with most time being spent
doing an instructor led group run. Group led pace will not be faster than 10:30 min/mile
pace and will use the run/walk method to increase running endurance and speed. Typical
distance covered each class will be 2-3 miles. Class meets in all weather and participants
should bring a cell phone and wear running clothes, shoes and a watch that allows moni-
toring running interval times. All Fall participants will receive a piece of Fall running gear
the first night of class.
Women’s Beginning Running
Ages 14+
Yes you can run! This women’s only class will give you the confidence and knowledge to
become a runner as you work toward the goal of finishing a 5K race. Your instructor is an
experienced RRCA Certified Running Coach and has completed 50 marathons. Each class
includes a lecture and a running session. Class meets in all weather conditions. Wear run-
ning shoes and watch with a second hand, bring a water bottle and dress in layers for the
weather.
This class is for true beginners and follows an interval walk/run format that does not focus
on running fast. Success is measured through being active, gradually running longer dis-
tances while having fun and meeting other new runners. Most participants complete a
5K run by the end of class. Prerequisite: Attendees should be able to comfortably walk
non-stop for one hour. All Fall participants will receive a piece of Fall running gear the first
night of class.
Women’s Running Club
Ages 14+
Back by popular demand, this group of
women meet weekly to chat and run. Led
by a RRCA Certified Running coach who
has completed 50 marathons, typical train-
ing runs will be 3-5 miles and may include
introductory hill and speed building ses-
sions. All speeds are welcome! Groups in
the past have had wide range of runners
representing paces from 9-12 minutes per
mile each week. This is a great follow-up
to the beginner running class. Class meets
and runs in nearly all weather conditions.
Please be on time as the group immediate-
ly takes to the road running varied routes
each week. Runners should bring a cell
phone, wear a watch with second hand
and dress in layers for the weather. All Fall
participants will receive a piece of Fall run-
ning gear the first night of class.

equal access to its programs, facilities and

color, sex, national origin or disability.
Auxiliary aids for persons with disabilities
wishing to attend or participate in the City
of Eagan recreation programs are available
upon request at least 96 hours in advance
of the event. If a notice of less than 96
hours is received, the City will make every
attempt to provide reasonable accommo-
dations.
Photo/Video Release
City Use of Images
It is recommended that a release be
obtained when photographing or videotap-
ing a minor (under 18). Parent or guard-
ian signatures are required; signatures of
minors are not sufficient. When imAges
are published, the City will take cautionary
steps to provide minimum identifying infor-
mation and will not use a specific street or
mailing address, e-mail addresses or phone
numbers. While signed release forms are
generally not needed when photographing
in public places, such as parks, this extra
step is being taken because the imAges
taken are intended for use in City publica-
tions and communications.
Data Privacy Act
In accordance with the Minnesota
Government Data Practices Act, the Parks
& Recreation Department hereby informs
you that the personal information we are
requesting of you and/or your child or
guardian on our registration form is now
considered private. Private data is avail-
able to you and to City staff who need
to have this information to perform their
duties, but not to the public. While you may
choose to withhold this data, the conse-
quences could be that the City’s staff may
not be able to complete your registration
and/or the participant may not receive
updated program information, such as
schedule changes.
Eagan Parks & Recreation periodically takes
pictures of participants in our classes, dur-
ing special events and in the parks. Please
be aware that these photos may be used
in the City’s brochures, pamphlets, or cable
presentations. If you or your family mem-
bers do not want to be photographed or
published you must give us written notice.
Minnesota Concussion Law
A new law regarding concussions went into
effect on Sept. 1, 2011. This new law sets into
place policies and new standards for educat-
ing youth athletes of head concussions. It is
aimed at preventing and identifying concus-
sions in youths participating in sports. The
law applies to city sponsored youth athlet-
ics, youth athletic association programs and
regular school sports programs. A youth is
considered through age 18. Eagan Parks &
Recreation is complying with this new law.
For questions, support, or
to make a request
please visit our Citizen
Support Center at
www.cityofeagan.com/
citizensupportcenter.
Eagan Parks & Recreation is dedi-
cated to providing a wide range of
recreational opportunities to meet
the diverse interests of its residents.
In addition, the safety and mainte-
nance of each park’s infrastructure
and amenities remains a high prior-
ity. Under the guidance of the City
Council, Advisory Parks Commission
and dedicated staff, Eagan’s park
system has become a benchmark for
excellence for other communities.

The Eagan Advisory Parks
Commission is a five member citizen’s
commission appointed by the City
Council. The commission reviews all resi-
dential development proposals for park
dedication, trail dedication, forestry and
water quality/wetlands requirements,
reviews recreational programs and
activities and determines long-range
planning objectives for park acquisi-
tion and development. The Commission
meets bi-monthly the Monday prior to
the second City Council meeting, at 7:00
pm in the Council Chambers. If you have
an item that should appear before the
Commission, you may contact Eagan
Parks & Recreation at (651) 675-5500 to
coordinate.

Discover. Experience. Grow..
Eagan Parks & Recreation
When you watch your four-year old
hit a home run in t-ball, we’re there.
We’re at the Art House teaching tech-
nique to growing artists, encouraging
you as you run that last mile on the
treadmill, setting your wedding chairs
just right and keeping you safe on the
ice at open skate.
In the playgrounds, in the trees, and in
your lives. Eagan Parks & Recreation
brings together people, places and
experiences to connect and grow our
community. Discover everything we
have to offer.

“Metamorphosis”
Public Art Sculpture & Harvest of Art
The City of Eagan received a Creative Intersections grant
from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council for public art. This project is the culmi-
nation of a two-year community survey process.
Twelve artists submitted their qualifications to be
considered for the public art project with four finalists
selected. A selection committee made up of leaders from the Eagan Art House,
Eagan Art Festival and Eagan Parks & Recreation interviewed each artist. In addition,
the community provided feedback on each proposed sculpture.
Local sculptor Melvin Smith’s “Metamorphosis” was chosen. At 21 feet tall and with
bright orange color, the piece offers a significant visual impact to the Eagan Art
House Grounds in Patrick Eagan Park.
The sculpture will be officially revealed at this year’s 8th Annual Harvest of Art on
Sunday, September 8 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Eagan Art House, 3981 Lexington
Avenue South. Visitors can enjoy a community art exhibit, artist demonstrations,
outdoor raku firing, live music and other treats, including 15% off class registration fee
when you register at the event.
