The trees appear to be healthy. The overall canopy growth is consistent with a mature tree of this size. Dead branches are visible in the lower crown. This is to be expected as the trees have not been pruned in some time.Subsequent inspections will be necessary throughout the next three years to monitor health during this transition period post construction. Inspections in the early summer and early fall are most appropriate. Dieback in the upper canopy should be expected as the tree responds to the shock of root pruning. These branches should be pruned and health monitored to adjust recommendations as the need arises. Construction preparation is to include root pruning, tree fertilization application of tree growth regulator, pruning to remove broken branches and removal of invasive tree growth around the base. Each of these steps are intended to provide short and long term health improvements to carry the trees through the initial stage of recovery from the construction process. The preferred root pruning method in this case is to use a trenching machine designed to sever roots with a clean cut. This prevents the bark from tearing causing immense damage. In the spring time the sap flow can cause the bark to"float"more than it does at other times in the year. The trencher will reach three and half feet underground. The other root severance tool at our disposal is a vibratory plow that will reach deeper at five feet. This tool however is not advised at this location, because it violently shakes the ground. It is typically used in a forested atmosphere to sever roots during an oak wilt mitigation project. Application of tree nutrition combined with a tree growth regulator will redirect energy expenditures toward the root system rather than canopy elongation. These are applied separately as soil injection using a deep root soil probe. Recommendation is for this two year nutrition treatment to continue by the new owner.Cambistat, the tree growth regulator, offers the ability to place the tree in a more conservative state by reducing water needs, slowing canopy growth while increasing fibrous root growth. It is this fibrous root growth that will be needed to recover from substantial root pruning. Fact sheets have been attached to this report with additional details on each treatment. The final step to this process is to apply 5-6"of mulch as a temporary blanket to prevent soil compaction and possible root damage. Prior to laying the mulch, the trees should be watered with approximately 1-2"of water. After construction process is complete the mulch layer should be reduced to 2-3".Tree watering program can be offered if no water source is available or if it is preferred to have this step monitored by our arborists. Fencing material should be placed around the tree. In this case it will create a ten foot zone around the tree.Several branches should be pruned to raise the crown level to the height of the major scaffold branches. Two broken branches were visible during the onsite inspection and should be removed for safety reasons. ..,:'i1'f,. , PROPOSAL ., ,t1 j ,` , -- 1+ / /f;y 05-Jun-2015 . A '' Proposal Submitted To: fl `/// , i Great Oaks 2nd Addition 1 I Sean Doyle 700 Apache Ln RnW TrCIrP Mendota Heights MN 55120 Rainbow Tree Company Cell(651)248-8494 11571 K-Tel Drive Email: sean@sd-customhomes.com Minnetonka, MN 55343 952-922-3810 or 651-251-3$10 Property Address: ot Size(acres) 0.36 Consulting Arborist: Keith Karch 813 Great Oaks Trl Karcn Eagan MN 55123 Cell phone: 612-437-1330 The updated recommendation for removing tle volunteer trees, uprooted buckthorn, and larger weeds can be completed as shown below. The cost accommodates our minimum and includes reestablishment of the Tree Protection Fence after the project is complete.
