TO: HONORABLE MAYOR& CITY COUNCILMEMBERS
FROM: CITY ADMINISTRATOR HEDGES
DATE: JANUARY 15, 1999
SUBJECT: SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING/JANUARY 19, 1999
A Special City Council meeting is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. in the City Council Chambers to
meet with the City's legislative delegation, including a representative from Congressman
Luther's office, Senator Wiener and State Representatives Tim Pawlenty and Tim Wilkin.
Since the meeting is starting at 5:45 instead of 5:00 p.m., there will be no food served.
UPDATE BY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION
Each year, early in the legislative session, the City Council makes an effort to meet with
their legislative delegation for the purpose of discussing issues of mutual concern that are
likely to be raised during the legislative session. The meeting also provides an opportunity
for legislators representing the City to provide information on any new bills being
introduced or considered that may impact the community.
Enclosed on page is a copy of correspondence that was sent to Representative
Pawlenty, which is essentially the same text sent to Representative Wilkin, Senator Wiener
and Congressman Luther. Please note that at the time the correspondence was sent, it was
anticipated that the work session would begin at 5:00 p.m. with other business. There is no
work session scheduled at 5:00 p.m. as the agenda indicates.
As of Friday, Senator Wiener, Representative Wilkin and a representative from
Congressman Luther's office are planning to attend the work session. We have not yet
received a response from Representative Pawlenty.
OTHER BUSINESS
There are no items for Other Business for the Special City Council meeting.
The Special City Council meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers. The City
Council and legislative delegation will be seated at a table in front of the podium. The
meeting will be aired on our cable channel. It will be necessary to honor the adjournment at
6:20 p.m. to allow for staff to set up for the regular City Council meeting.

Dear Representative Pawlenty:
On behalf of the Eagan City Council, I would like to invite you to attend a special
City Council work session on Tuesday, January 19. The work session will begin
at 5:00 p.m. Understanding you will be busy in session, we would like to
schedule the legislators for discussion at 5:45, leading up to the beginning of the
Council's regularly cable-cast meeting at 6:30 p.m.
The purpose of the work session will be to discuss issues of mutual concern that
are likely to be raised during the next legislative session, and to review the
legislative policy positions of the League of Minnesota Cities, Association of
Metropolitan Municipalities, and the Municipal Legislative Commission. The City
Council would also like to hear of any new bills being introduced that are likely to
impact Eagan.
We are looking forward to working with our elected officials in the upcoming
session. Please let me know if you cannot attend the special work session.
Thank you.
Sincerely, .
Thomas L. Hedges
