World War II
roundtable discussion
March 24: Today we're worried that North
Korea is testing ballistic missiles and
nuclear bombs. But the roots of that
military technology go back more than 70
years to World War II. That's the subject of
Dr. Harold C. Deutsch World War II
roundtable at Historic Fort Snelling. "Birth
of the New Age of War: Atomic Bombs and
Rockets," a look at the development of the
atomic bomb in the United States and
rocket testing by German engineers, will be
discussed by Jim Eckles, author of
"Trinity" and "Pocket Full of Rockets." The
World War II roundtable brings together
authors, historians and WWII veterans to
discuss the history of the conflict and to
share the stories of those who lived
through it. 7 p.m. Thursday, March 24;
Historic Fort Snelling, 200 Tower Ave.,
St. Paul; $5 suggested donation, free for
students and veterans; mnhs.org/
event/438.
