Restoring the building, which was damaged last year by a fire, on its cur- rent location at Wescott and Pilot Knob roads was the least expensive of three options considered by the City Council at its Nov. 12 workshop. Restoration is expect- ed to cost an estimated $177,000. The council also con- sidered the option to move Eagan's old Town Hall is pictured after a fire in September 2013. Other council members were previously interested in moving the building, but decided against it due to its 5463,000 price tag. "There is no valid rea- son to move it," Council Member Gary Hansen said. Tilley argued that mov- ing the Old Town Hall would free up space for additional parking at the former fire administration building, which is current- ly for sale. Council Member Paul Bakken said after talking to someone in the real es- tate industry, additional off-site parking wouldn't to recoup the $174,000 dif- ference. City Administrator Dave Osberg said poten- tial buyers haven't men- tioned a need for addition- al parking. Two members of the Eagan Historical Society spoke at the workshop and represented opposing ends of the debate. Lori Tripp said she be- lieves the Old Town Hall should be restored on site due to the price of moving it.
