AMERICA RECYCLES DAY
THE VICE PRESIDENT
WASHINGTON
Please join me in celebrating. America's environmental accomplishments during
the first annual America Recycles Day, November 15, 1997. As Honorary Chair, I look
forward to the opportunity to lead a united effort aimed at reminding and encouramng
Americans everywhere to learn more and do even more recycling and purchasing
recycled content products.
With its theme, "Keep Recycling Working: Buy Recycled," America Recycles
Day applauds the efforts that have resulted in one of our most significant environmental
achievements in the last twenty years --the establishment of thousands of recycling
programs all over the country. In addition, this year's America Recycles Day serves as a
reminder that each one of us builds on this important achievement whenever we choose
products made from recycled materials.
The U.S. government has been purchasing recycled content products for years.
Over the past four years, President Clinton and I have asked federal agencies to re -double
their recycling efforts. Last year alone, 64 percent of all the paper products the federal
government bought contained post -consumer content material.
All of us must continue the proud tradition of Americans working together to
make our nation better. We must buy recycled at home; request recycled from the
companies with which we work; and demand recycled from our local, state and federal
governments.
Have a great America Recycles Day, and remember:
"Keep Recycling Working: Buy Recycled."
