Document - Historical Society Minutes - Minutes - 11/12/2002HISTORICAL COMMITTEE NOVEMBER 12, 2002 A meeting of the Historical Committee was held on Tuesday, November 12 at 3:30 p.m. Those present were Ray Wade, Gin Knight, Ted Wachter, Daniel Kahnke, Paul Hauge and Mary Ellen Vorachek. AGENDA The agenda was approved as presented. MINUTES Wachter made a motion to approve the minutes of the October 8, 2002 meeting; Vorachek seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. Gin Knight stated that she had recently talked with Elizabeth Kenneally, who has been sick and likely will not be back with the Committee. She further stated she would take care of delivering a card and flowers to her. The Committee authorized funding for flowers and suggested taping an interview for her. HISTORIC TRAILS Wachter made a motion to recommend asking the Advisoty Parks Commission and then the City Council to adopt the name “Thresher’s Fields” for the park currently refered to as “North Fields” The members also discussed placing of a plaque or descriptive sign explaining threshing and related stories of historic Thresher’s Fields at this site. Kahnke seconded. All members voted in favor. DISPLAY CASES Hauge made a motion to authorize the construction of a book/magazine rack approximately four feet high with sixteen slots to be built through the Parks Maintenance crew to be placed in the Municipal Center lobby. The rack would be supplied with copies of the “Lone Oak Years” and other books and publications for the benefit of the public related to Eagan history. Knight seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. Wachter stated that he would do decorative relief carving on the new display cases. Wade stated he would empty the display case on the first floor of City Hall. Committee members discussed subjects to occupy the display case. Suggestions were the Mendota Bridge, KSTP radio tower/Wescott, transportation and notable women in Eagan’s history. WORK SESSIONS Historical Society discussed the need for additional shelving space and if there is a possibility of expansion of their space downstairs. Joanna will check into the possibilities. Historical Committee November 12, 2002/2 NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the Historical Society will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 4:35 p.m.
