DECEMBER 3, 2002
A meeting of the Historical Committee was held on Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at 3:30 p.m.
Those present were Ray Wade, Gin Knight, Ted Wachter, Helen Kennedy, Allen Wachter, Alice
Bolke, Bea Blomquist and Mary Ellen Vorachek.
AGENDA
The agenda was approved as presented.
RENAMING OF NORTH PARK
A memo to the Advisory Parks and Recreation Commission regarding Thresher’s Field as
the name for North Park will be mailed to Committee members along with the minutes of the
November 5, 2002 meeting of the Historical Society.
JOINT MEETING WITH HOLZ FARM GROUP
At the time Holz Farm was purchased, Wachter was on the Eagan City Council and, if he
remembers correctly, has stated he made a motion to change the lake name from Manor Lake back
to Holz Lake.
Kennedy made a motion to invite Jeff Asfahl and the current Chair of the Holz Farm Group
to a Historical Society meeting inquiring as to the level of their interest. Blomquist seconded the
motion. All members voted in favor.
DISPLAY WINDOW THEMES
It was stated there are four display windows for historical themes. There was further
discussion as to the themes of these windows; modes of transportation, early railroads, roads,
bridges and rivers. It was stated the Clarkson Boat Works also owned the original ferry on the
river.
OTHER BUSINESS
Paul Maier is working on the history of the Police Department for his Masters Degree.
Maier will be putting together a display, which will be located either in the Municipal Center of the
Eagan City Hall or at the Eagan Police Department. He will be coming in to work next Tuesday,
December 10, 2002, and anyone interested in assisting should plan to be here at 1:00 p.m.
NEXT HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING
The next meeting of the Historical Society will be January 7, 2003 at 3:30 p.m. It was
suggested that Historical Markers be an agenda item on the January 7, 2002 meeting agenda.
