Eagan Historical Society Minutes
of October 7, 2003 Meeting
A meeting of the Eagan Historical Society was held on Tuesday, October 7,
2003, in the Community Room at Eagan City Hall at 3:30 p.m. Present at the meeting
were Bea Blomquist, Martin DesLauriers, Mary Ellen Voracek, Ted Wachter and staff
member Joanna Foote.
Prior to the meeting, DesLauriers gave a history of information and a photo
which he had brought for the Historical Society files which related to the Lost Spur
property from north of Lone Oak, west of Pilot Knob to the river. He noted that the
families in this section of land were mostly all related to the Auge’s. The property was
given to the Labey’s by Henry Sibley. The old brick house owned by Emil LeTendre
before the State bought it was an Auge blacksmith shop. An Auge family lived where
Oscar’s was located on Pilot Knob and Skyline Road. Once Oscar took part of the
Auge farm, the north part by I-494 was bought by a man named Rice. Homes owned
by the Auge family were at one time on the steep hill on Lone Oak Rd going down to
Hwy 13. That part of Lone Oak was once named Auge Road.
Approve September 2, 2003 Minutes
Blomquist made a motion to approve the minutes of the September 2, 2003 Historical
Society meeting; Wachter seconded with all members voting in favor.

Council Tour at 1914 Town Hall
Foote informed the members that City Administrator Hedges will ask the City Council
if they would like to meet at Old Town Hall at 4:45 p.m. prior to their October 14
meeting. After polling the members, it was determined that Blomquist and DesLauriers
would be attending. Foote will bring plans to that meeting for Council’s review.
Blomquist will take pictures of the Old Town Hall that evening. Foote will also bring a
display about the history of the Central Park land and other items that she had placed
on the back side of the 4th of July display board. She noted that this was a point of
interest at the Community Center Open House where it is now displayed. It was also
noted that Old Town Hall was restored through a Governor Perpich program and we
should have some information regarding that program at the Town Hall.
Cub Scout Tour at 1914 Town Hall
Foote was contacted by a Cub Scout group of first graders interested in touring the
1914 Town Hall. She is suggesting the tour for October 14 at 6:30 p.m., following the
meeting with the City Council.
Update on History Group @ Community Center
Develop List of Individuals for Interviewing
Foote noted that the seniors will be meeting in the Lone Oak Room at 1:00 p.m. on
Monday, October 13. They are interested in obtaining a list of individuals from the
Historical Committee that they can interview. The Committee members discussed this
request and came forward with the following list of individuals: Anna Carlson, Marvin
and Hilda Rahn, Ted Wachter, Martin DesLauriers, Alyce Bolke, Harvey, Marvin and
Billy Sell, Gin Knight, Helen Kennedy, Lucille and Luella Sell, Pearl and Violet Reid,
Eileen Kennedy, Don Chapdelaine, Wilford, Marvin, Luella and Lucille Heuer, George
and Louis Trapp, Pat McCarthy, Dick Lemay, Helder Gortzke, Eddie Schwanz, Frank
Lehman, Otto Wierke’s daughter Irma Schaefer, Pearl, Laurence and Florence Reid.
The members provided brief background on the individuals and will provide contact
information to the seniors.
Review Map of Farms Prepared by Martin DesLauriers
Foote referenced a list of 84 area farmers dating from 1942 to 1955 prepared by
DesLauriers. The numbered list, along with an Eagan map with corresponding
numbers, is a replication of the milk route he and his father and brother used while
hauling milk for area farmers. The group discussed the list and background
information that various members shared about the farmers.
Contacts for Trinity Lone Oak Church Photo
Contact Church re: Historical Files
Foote was informed that Trinity Lone Oak Church has a number of historical files, but
they are beginning to disintegrate. She suggested that someone contact the church and
ask if they would be willing to share these files, possibly allowing us to make copies.
She further noted that other area churches may also have historical information of
interest to the Committee. The members recalled several individuals who belong to
Trinity Lone Oak Church and others who may be interested in researching this project.
They will be contacted. During the discussion it was noted that Thomas Lake was once
called Jensen Lake for the family who lived in that area.
There was brief discussion regarding where the two-sided display would be placed in
Old Town Hall for the City Council tour. Foote also showed the photos from the photo
contest, noting especially the ones of historical interest. She noted that the four winning
photos will be displayed and also stated that the historical photos could possibly be of
use sometime in the future.
Foote stated that Dakota Electric has agreed to sponsor a portion of the card project.
They will donate $3,000 toward the project, which is about one-half of the total cost.
