Discuss Possible Historical Naming Options for Community Room
Due to public confusion between the Eagan Community Center and the Community
Room at City hall, the Historical Society was asked to recommend a new name for the
Community Room at City Hall. After discussion of several possible names, Blomquist
made a motion to change the name of the Community Room to the Patrick Eagan
Room; Kahnke seconded with all members voting in favor. Foote will prepare a
recommendation to be presented to the City Council.
There was discussion regarding Historical Committees in surrounding cities. Knight
had contacted the individual in charge of the Rosemount Historical Society. She was
able to give information about a number of Historical organizations throughout the
County. It was noted that Apple Valley does not have a Historical Society; their
historical artifacts are handled by the County. Rosemount has four file drawers in
individuals’ basements; their Committee meets monthly in their Community Room.
The individual in charge of Rosemount’s Historical group has a list of over 300 names
of individuals from Rosemount, many who are related to her. Farmington has some
preservation items and meets in the Farmington library. Most records are kept in David
Schrier’s basement. Lakeville fell heir to an old rectory deeded to the city, which
allowed the Historical Society to take control of the building. Two individuals from
Burnsville wrote a book a few years ago; however, they have never had a volunteer
committee.
