Document - Historical Society Minutes - Minutes - 1/7/2003HISTORICAL COMMITTEE JANUARY 7, 2003 A meeting of the Historical Committee was held on Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at 3:30 p.m. Those present were Ray Wade, Gin Knight, Helen Kennedy, Allen Wachter, Bea Blomquist, Daniel Kahnke, David Schreier, Jeff Asfahl and Joanna Foote. AGENDA Foote indicated that two items needed to be added to the agenda, David Schreier wishes to speak with members regarding the Dakota County book he is writing and Eric Macbeth, Eagan’s Water Resources Coordinator wishes to request assistance on a project his department is doing in Cedar Pond Park. Blomquist made a motion to approve the agenda as amended. Knight seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. MINUTES Kennedy made a motion to approve the minutes of the November 12, 2002 and December 3, 2002 meetings. Wachter seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. DAVID SCHREIER / REQUEST FOR INFORMATION FOR DAKOTA COUNTY BOOK David Schreier was present at the meeting and interested in obtaining historical photographs for use in the county history book he is presently putting together. Schreier stated the book is basically complete with the exception of the business section, which is currently being written. It was stated that he is looking for anyone from Eagan with military photography, information or records from World War I, World War II and the Korean War, along with anyone from Eagan who had died in those wars. There was further discussion regarding military information and it was suggested to put something in local newspapers requesting this information. David Schreier’s telephone number is 651-454-4056 and anyone with information is being asked to contact him. There was further discussion regarding photos of housing and schools in Eagan. Wade stated he has aerials of the Cedar Grove area. David Schreier will e-mail a list to us of what he still needs for the completion of his book. Tuesday, January 14, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. has been designated as a date that Schreier will meet with members to look for photos. HOLZ FARM Jeff Asfahl, Superintendent of Recreation, was present and spoke on Friends of the Farm – Holz Farm and how the Historical Society could partner with them. He discussed events coming up; Spring Festival including farm activities, kitchen activities, hayrides, rope making and animals; Lone Oak Days and the Holiday Festival. He stated the Friends of the Farm are meeting on Thursday, January 9th at 6:00 p.m. at the farm and he will discuss a partnership with the Historical Society with that group at that time. Historical Committee January 7, 2003/2 Kennedy made a motion to have the members of the Historical Society visit the Friends of the Farm group if the invitation is extended. Knight seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. HISTORICAL MARKERS Blomquist made a motion to research costs and feasibility of placing a brass historical marker in front of the Old Town Hall. Kennedy seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. MEMORIAL PLAQUE IN RECOGNITION OF ELIZABETHER KENNEALLY Kennedy made a motion to design and place a small plaque in recognition of Elizabeth Kenneally on the literature rack that is being designed and will be located in the Municipal Center lobby. Knight seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. REMAINING DISPLAY WINDOW THEMES Knight noted that a window could be designed to recognize “women pioneers/the first females”. There was discussion as to women that would fit this category; Elizabeth Kenneally – Dakota County Tribune reporter, Helen Kennedy – JP, Alice Bolke – City Clerk, Bea Blomquist – first woman City of Eagan Mayor. NEXT HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING The next meeting of the Historical Society will be February 4, 2003 at 3:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
