Document - Historical Society Minutes - Historical Society Notes 9/1/2000 - 9/1/2000Eagan Historical Society notes: 9-1-2000
As I am away at a conference this week, I thought I would provide a written update for
the group.
Lone Oak Days
The annual Lone Oak Days celebration is scheduled for Friday Evening and Saturday,
September 16. The group may wish to consider having a presence (table, display, book
sales…) at the event. If so, please contact Jeff Asfahl in Park & Recreation for the
details, times, etc.
The group has also discussed the possibility of opening the Old Town Hall on the
following Sunday, September 17. If you choose to do this, please leave me a message
(Voicemail at 651-681-4604) with the times and such and I will get a release to the
papers. I can also make flyers if you would like to hand them out at the Lone Oak Days
event.
A Moment in Time: with Eagan’s Police Chiefs.
A tape of the program should be included with these notes (if not, please check with
Virginia in Administration). The tape is still in its “raw” form. I need to provide photos
and/or video for “cover” to insert into the program as the Chiefs are talking in order to
make the program more interesting. This needs to happen before the program will air.
Any assistance I can get from the group in locating photos, news clippings or video, etc.
to utilize will be appreciated. Otherwise I will get to this as my schedule allows. The
current tape is available for your use. I am happy to set up a time for your group viewing
of the program, or you are welcome to stay and view it after this meeting or you may take
it home for your individual viewing and trade it amongst yourselves.
2001 Budget and Computer Purchase:
The 2001 budget was submitted for $3,000. It includes many of the same items as last
year with the inclusion of a printer for the computer. I have eliminated the $2,000
printing expenditure as it does not seem necessary at this time. I will bring the line item
budget to the next meeting.
A computer has been installed in the Historical Society work area and is available for
your use. It is not currently hooked to the City network. Let me know if you need it to
be connected or if it is adequate as is. I am working on acquiring a printer for this area as
well. Otherwise one has been included in the 2001 budget.
2001 Historical Society Budget
Expenditures:
Historic Photo Reproduction $400
Mailing Costs $150
Film & Development $400
Framing $200
Supplies $200
Major Projects:
‘40s Aerial photo reproductions $800
Capital:
Color jet Printer $300
Software $250
TOTAL $3,000
Community Center Update:
An architect, site planner and construction manager have been hired for the Central Park/
Community Center project. Focus groups will be identified at the City Council meeting
this evening at 6:30. In speaking with Ken Vraa, the project manager (Eagan’s Park
Director) he stated that a focus group regarding the Historical Society offices and space
needs is not necessary as the group has very clearly spelled out their needs. He is
however planning to meet with the group to clarify details as we get further into the
project. I will keep you updated on the plans as they develop.
October Elections:
Typically the Society has held its elections in October for Chair, Vice Chair and
Secretary. You may wish to consider scheduling this item for the next meeting.
