Document - Historical Society Minutes - Minutes - 4/6/2004MINUTES OF THE EAGAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY APRIL 6, 2004 A meeting of the Historical Committee was held on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at 3:30 p.m. Those present were Ted Wachter, Gin Knight, Ray Wade, Judith Miller, Kim Hazel and Communications Coordinator, Joanna Foote. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Wade made a motion to approve the minutes of the March 2, 2004 meeting of the Eagan Historical Society; Miller seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. CARD PROJECT UPDATE Wachter stated he has names of the men with shovels that are pictured on the deck of cards if we would like them. The playing cards will be going to the press this week. The committee discussed the script for the subcommittee to call schools to find out how many decks will be needed for the schools. Knight will be doing the phone calling. EAGAN HISTORY RECAP At the previous meeting, members requested that a recap of Eagan history be prepared so that members would have easy access for interviews, etc. Foote distributed the information that is currently on the City Web site and asked members to review it to determine if this would be suitable for what the members had in mind. Wade indicated that he would add a paragraph and send it for inclusion with information from our web site. The committee suggested that a small brochure could be compiled with a recap of Eagan History. NEIGHBORHOOD UPDATE ARTICLE Wade commented on the article that had been included with the packet, by Don Blyly entitled “Neighborhood Update” and stated how impressed he was of the clout the Minnesota Historical Society has had with the redevelopment of the Chicago Ave. Bridge and Chicago Ave. DISPLAY CASES Wade and Knight stated they will work on the display cases. Wachter, Voracek and Miller may also be available to help with the display cases. The committee discussed ideas for the display cases; early soil conservation, composting/recycling – use of lower toxic/phosphorus fertilizers, etc., “old ideas are new again”, alternate forms of energy, i.e. farmers’ windmills and Township Days. All available members agreed to meet on Tuesday, April 20 at 1:30 to work on the displays. Historical Committee April 6, 2004/2 SCHEDULE SUMMER OPEN HOUSES It was suggested to further discuss scheduling of summer open houses during the next History Committee meeting. Future dates discussed were late May or early June; September and possibly schedule an open house or open houses for school classes during the month October. WORK SESSION An April 20, 2004 work session at 1:30 p.m. was scheduled. NEXT HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING DATE The next Eagan Historical Society meeting date is scheduled for Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at 3:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT The committee adjourned its meeting at 4:47 p.m.
