Members present were: Gin Knight, Ted Wachter and Kim Hazel. Also present was Communications Coordinator Joanna Foote. AGENDA ADOPTION The agenda was approved by acclamation with the addition of several items. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Gin Knight made a motion to approve the minutes of the July 12 , 2005 regular meeting of the Eagan Historical Society. Kim Hazel seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. THRESHER FIELDS MARKER SIGN Gin Knight reported on sign options for Thresher Fields. Knight stated the Eagan Historical Society will be traveling to Anoka on August 10, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. from the Eagan City Hall to observe their signs. EXPERIENCE EAGAN CITY SERVICES SHOWCASE PRESENTATION Joanna Foote introduced the item stating the Experience Eagan Open House will be held at the Community Center on September 22, 2005 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Committee discussed selling playing cards and the Lone Oak books and having flyers available about the 1914 Town Hall open house. The Committee stated they will set up a cash box for the sales. 1914 Town Hall Open House It was decided to meet at 1:00 p.m. before the next meeting to gather and select items for the open house on Sunday, September 25th from 11-1. Kim Hazel volunteered to set up on Sunday as Joanna will need to arrive late due to another volunteer commitment that morning. DAKOTA COUNTY FAIR INVITATION The Committee tentatively set August 10 as the date to tour Anoka and perhaps attend the Dakota County Fair and will leave City Hall at 9:00 for Anoka. The Committee decided that, depending on the weather, they may or may not attend the Dakota County Fair. Historical Committee August 2, 2005 LIBRARY PROJECT Ray Wade suggested through an e-mail message (as he was not able to attend the meeting) that the Society consider setting up a library of Historical Publications. HE felt it could be kept in the Municipal Center Display cases and accessed for checkout by City Hall Reception staff. Wade also indicated that he has a reference volume he has used throughout numerous years which he would be willing to donate to the project. The Committee discussed the library project agreeing it would be difficult to manage and monitor, would impact staff members that have no official tie to the Historical Society and was concerned about losing or damaging the books. The Committee discussed the possibility of having a “reading room”. It was suggested working with the Wescott Library for an area on their campus that would focus on Minnesota history, Eagan, History, Native American history, etc. MISCELLANEOUS The Senior Expo, being held on September 19, 2005, was discussed but no one is available on that date. It was noted the Mrs. Frank Lehman has a number of Eagan photos, but is not willing to give the photos to the Committee. An evening tour of the State Capital is being held on August 17, 2005 from 7:00 to 9:45 p.m. and is $12.00 for adults and $5.00 for children ages 6-17. Members must RSVP by August 12. Vic Wenzel was the Eagan resident who lifted the golden horses off and placed them back on the State Capital building during the renovation. NEXT HISTORIAL SOCIETY MEETING The next Historical Society meeting will be held on September 13, 2005 at 3:30 p.m. (as the regular meeting date is the Tuesday following Labor Day) with a workshop from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the meeting for set up for the September 22 Experience Eagan City Services Showcase.
