Document - Historical Society Minutes - Minutes - 11/1/2005MINUTES EAGAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY November 1, 2005 A meeting of the Historical Committee was held on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at 3:30 p.m. in the Eagan Room of the Eagan City Hall Lunch Room. Members present were: Gin Knight, Ted Wachter, Kim Hazel, Ray and Norma Wade, Martin DesLauriers, Katie Malone and Nancy Ingerson. Also present was Communications Coordinator Foote. AGENDA ADOPTION Upon motion by Knight; seconded by DesLauriers, the agenda was approved as presented. All members voted in favor. APPROVAL OF MINUTES R. Wade made a motion to approve the minutes of the October 4, 2005 regular meeting of the Eagan Historical Society. Malone seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. THRESHERS FIELDS MARKER SIGNS UPDATE Foote introduced the item and gave an overview for the Committee and showed a sample layout of the sign. DesLauriers noted that he would contact Don Ohmann, whose father had coordinated Eagan Threshing Bees for many years, to see if he might have photos to share which could enhance this project. Foote stated that she would continue to work to have the sign created before the end of 2005. Hazel made a motion to accept the sign. Wade seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. PATRICK EAGAN PHOTO/DISPLAY FOR EAGAN ROOM Foote introduced the item stating that the Committee had agreed some time ago to create a display about Patrick Eagan which could be placed in the Eagan Room. The Committee discussed whether a photo of P. Eagan exists. Knight and Hazel agreed to look in the files for such a photo. Foote will compile the narrative and any other materials for framing in the Eagan Room. WWII ERA REMEMBERED EVENT UPDATE The Committee discussed the WWII Era Remembered event. Wachter volunteered to contact Dick Carroll regarding the event. He stated Mr. Carroll was a POW and has spoken to schools regarding the subject. Wade discussed and passed around a form that was used for v-mail (victory-mail) during the war. He also has the 35mm copy of a letter that was done on this type of form. Historical Committee November 1, 2005 DesLauriers discussed rubber tires during the War. He stated that was a big ravine, on the corner of Lone Oak and T.H. 13 which was the Jack McCarthy farm, which contained a depth of approximately 65 feet of tires. DesLauriers stated the rubber was used to stop erosion of the land. There was further discussion about the Clarkson family that had a hog farm and many of the pigs were buried there. It was also noted that 3 children of the Clarkson’s burned to death in a wood stove fire in which the house burned down. OTHER HISTORICAL BUSINESS The Committee discussed taking inventory of donated items and items in the Old Town Hall. NEXT HISTORIAL SOCIETY MEETING The upcoming Historical Society meetings will be held on December 6, 2005 and January 10, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT DesLauriers made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 4:32 p.m. Wade seconded the motion. All members voted in favor.
