Document - Historical Society Minutes - Historical Society Minutes 05092006 - 5/9/2006MINUTES EAGAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY MAY 9, 2006 A meeting of the Historical Committee was held on Tuesday, May 9, 2006. The WWII Era – Eagan Remembers Historical Event planning meeting was held at 2:30 p.m. with the regular meeting at 3:30 p.m. in the Eagan Room of the Eagan City Hall. Members present were: Ted Wachter, Gin Knight, Kim Hazel, Ray Wade, Jean Funk, Mary Ellen Voracek and Cathy Bolduc. Also present was Communications Coordinator Foote. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Knight made a motion to approve the minutes as presented for the April 4, 2006 meeting. Voracek seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. UPDATE ON WWII REMEMBERS EVENT As all members of the Eagan Historical Society present for the regular meeting were also at the WWII Remembered, planning meeting, there was no need for an update and therefore Cathy Bolduc, Program and Events Supervisor for the City of Eagan, left the Historical Society meeting at that time. BUDGET FOR 2007 The Committee suggested a meeting or agenda item on basement space prior to determining the budget for 2007. BOOK IDEA Director of Communications, Tom Garrison had suggested that the Society consider the idea of having a book written to take up Eagan’s history where the “Lone Oak Years” book left off.. The Committee discussed compiling a list of individuals who should be interviewed for such a book. Some of those suggested were Tom Hedges, Pat Geagan, Ted Wachter, Martin DesLauriers and the founder of West Publishing. The Committee will decide at the next meeting who should be interviewed and approximately how many. They also discussed businesses that were once in Eagan and are now gone; Roberts Drug, Coast to Coast and Donaldson’s which were all at Cedarvale Mall. Wachter noted that he has films with shots of early snowplows which he has donated to the Society. Foote noted that these films have been converted to VHS and are in the basement office. Discussion was held regarding the sign, similar to the Thresher’s Fields sign, for the 1914 Town Hall. Foote asked members to consider what information should be included on the sign as she will begin designing that within the next few months. The sign is budgeted in 2006. Historical Committee May 9, 2006/2 The Committee agreed to do further research on the “trunk” that had been found in the 1914 Town Hall when it was renovated and try to determine what its contents were, as the trunk was taken by the Minnesota Historical Society. It is possible that the individual item might be found through MNHS as their was no record with MNHS of the trunk itself when researched in years past. NEXT HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING The next meeting of the Eagan Historical Society will be Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. A meeting regarding the WWII Remembered event will be held at 2:30 p.m. on the same day. ADJOURNMENT Voracek made a motion to adjourn the meeting; Funk seconded the motion. All members voted in favor.
