MINUTES
EAGAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY
October 3, 2006
A regular meeting of the Eagan Historical Committee was held on Tuesday, October 3,
2006 at 3:30 p.m. in the Eagan Room at Eagan City Hall. Members present were: Gin Knight,
Ray Wade, Kim Hazel, Martin DesLauriers and Mary Ellen Voracek. Also present was
Communications Coordinator Foote.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
DesLauriers made a motion to approve the minutes of the September 6, 2006 Eagan
Historical Society meeting as presented. Voracek seconded the motion. All members voted in
favor.
RECAP OPEN HOUSES/TOUR REQUESTS
Foote introduced the item stating that approximately 200 people attended the open houses,
most on the Sunday. This is the largest Open House the group has had to date. She noted a
presentation will be made to the 3rd grade classrooms of Pinewood Elementary School on October
18, 2006 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and field trips have been scheduled from Pinewood Elementary
School, to the Old Town Hall, for October 24, 2006 from about 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
The Committee noted it would be good to place a holiday article in the Eagan Newsletter
regarding the History on Deck cards and the Lone Oak Years book.
The Committee also discussed continuing to hold a Thursday open house prior to the annual Sunday
Open House each fall as it provides an alternate time for guests to visit and is not difficult as the
Town Hall is already set up by that point. They agreed that the time should be from approximately
3:30 to 6:00 p.m.
THRESHERS FIELDS SIGN DEDICATION
October 17, 2006 – 5:00 p.m.
The Committee agreed to meet at City Hall at 4:30 p.m. and take a van to Threshers Fields
for the sign dedication. DesLauriers and/or Wachter will present an approximate 15 minute
program at Threshers Fields to dedicate the new Historical Marker.
Other locations for future Historical Markers in Eagan were discussed:
o 1914 Town Hall
o First Fire Hall
o Half-way house
o Nicol’s Station location
o Wescott Station location
o First Police Station
Historical Committee
September 6, 2006/2
o Moonshine Park
o Tousignant / Valley Lounge
o Holz Farm
o Cedar Pond Park
o Patrick Eagan Park
o Rahn Park
It was noted that George Ohmann, who ran Threshing Bees in Eagan for many years, was
the father of Mrs. Frank Lehmans, who lives on Pilot Knob Road. The group felt that she should be
invited to the Historical Marker Dedication. The Committee also noted the Ohmann family lives in
the Lodgepole/Sequoia area which is west of Pilot Knob and south of Diffley Road; further noting
George Ohmann’s son brought in tractor and Threshing Bee photos. They also asked that these
individuals be sent invitations to the event.
NEXT PROJECTS
Committee members will email morning session times to work with Crystal Stevenson.
OTHER
DesLauriers brought a listing of 104-years of Public Service by the members of the Adam
Family. He suggested contacting the newspaper to do a story on the family. He also noted that the
best contact for a story would be Jerry and Marlene Adams who live here in Eagan.
NEXT HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Eagan Historical Society will be Tuesday, November 14,
2006 at 3:30 p.m. as the regular meeting date of November 7 is Election Day and staff will have
scheduling conflicts on that date.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 4:53 p.m.
