and members: Linda Bendt, Alyce Bolke, Kim Hazel, Gin Knight, Mary Ellen Voracek, Millie
Gignac and Ray Wade. Also present were Recreation Assistant, Cathy Grubb and Communication
Coordinator, Joanna Foote.
AGENDA
Upon motion by Knight; seconded by Bolke, the agenda was approved as presented. All

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Knight made a motion to approve the minutes of the March 6, 2007 Eagan Historical
Society meeting as presented. Bolke seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. The group
also accepted the notes as presented from the March 20, Special meeting.
UPDATE ON INTERN PROJECTS: REVIEW MARCH 20TH MEETING
REGISTRATION MANUAL
The Committee discussed the Eagan Historical Society: Registration Manual and agreed to
its contents as a working draft. The Committee also discussed the idea of funding appraisals for
donated items as necessary, the use of gloves while handling articles and photographs and other
questions. Foote asked that members review the Registration manual carefully and call or send her
their questions between now and the next meeting so questions can be researched and answered at
the next meeting. Adoption of the manual is a goal for the May 1 meeting.
Wade made a motion to adopt the Statement of Historical Society Purpose, and also to adopt
and Registration Manual as a working document. Voracek seconded the motion. All members
voted in favor.
TOWN HALL DISPLAY ITEM IDENTIFICATION PACKET
Foote introduced the item and explained that photos of each item at the 1914 Town Hall had
been taken and Intern Seewald is hoping the members can assist in identifying items and providing
as much information as is known about each item.
Wachter, Bolke, Knight and Hazel took packets to help identify items in the photo
worksheets.
CONSIDER A VIRTUAL HISTORY MUSEUM
Historical Committee
April 3, 2007/2
Foote gave background on the virtual history meeting as created in Waseca in conjunction
with students at Waseca High School. Intern Seewald worked with the Waseca Virtual History
Museum project and is interested in helping Eagan develop a similar project. The Virtual History
Museum includes photos and information, researched and compiled regarding the community
history and breaks the information into a timeline. Each included item has a link on a Web site so
that information and Historical Society displays could be available at any time on a Web site as
opposed to a physical museum that has specific open hours. Portions of Waseca’s virtual history
museum was viewed during the meeting. The Historical Society members agreed that this is a
worthwhile project and Eagan should consider such a project if possible.
CONSIDER SHOWCASE EAGAN – MAY 17
The Committee discussed the Showcase Eagan event which will be held at the Eagan Civic
Arena on Thursday, May 17, 2007. Ray Wade, Gin Knight and Mary Ellen Voracek volunteered to
staff a table at the event and create a display to promote the Historical Society’s upcoming Flag Day
event. They also indicated that the same display, once compiled, could be used at the Holz Farm
and other sprin events. The Committee agreed to hold a planning meeting on Wednesday, April
18th at 1:00 p.m. to begin compiling items for the display.
DISPLAY FOR HOLZ FARM EVENTS
Foote gave a brief background on the Holz Farm events stating the Spring Festival will be
on May 20 and Lone Oak Days are scheduled for September 29 & 30. The committee suggested
using the same display for the Flag Day Celebration and the Holz Farm events.
FLAG DAY CELEBRATION
Foote introduced the item stating the Flag Day Celebration is June 14, 2007. Wade brought
print-outs from the internet of a variety of American Flags that have existed throughout history for
display at the Flag Day event. Wachter noted that the Post Office near Target has a framed print of
20 flags (perhaps some of the same flags as those which Wade brought) for sale for $40. Wachter
agreed to revisit the Post Office to see if an unframed, and therefore less expensive print is available
that the group might use as a part of a display.
Voracek noted that she would look into a group that might bring a bald eagle to the event. Cathy
Grubb is coordinating the use of the Band Shell and the Lone Oak Room as well as a patriotic band
to perform at the Band Shell. She noted that the puppet wagon will provide a show in a patriotic
theme at the event. Gignac agreed to contact the Library to see if they are interested in being
involved at the event by providing a reading and/or a display of books related to the American Flag.
Bendt agreed to contact the Police Department regarding a color guard and Knight agreed to contact
someone at the Police Department regarding a demonstration of military-style flag folding. Hazel
will contact the Boy Scouts to ask if they will perform a flag burning ceremony at the event and
perhaps residents will then be able to bring flags that are no longer of use, to be properly destroyed.
She will also find out if a troop might be available to place the small flags along Central Parkway
for the day of the event. Members will report their progress at the next meeting and a schedule can
be created for the activities arranged between noon and 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 14.
