HOLZ FARM FALL EVENT PARTICIPATION

29th-30th from 11-4 p.m. each day. The event drew in about 1,400 people over the two
days last year. “Jenny,” the historic Eagan fire truck will be used at the event that day.
The committee was invited to be involved via a display, games or simply as a resource.
After further discussion, the Historical Society members decided to declined the
invitation as they will have their hands full preparing for the October Open Houses at
the1914 Town Hall. They may consider providing a display or information in the future.
UPDATE/INTRODUCTION OF INTERN
A brief overview of the new intern, Samantha Kolbo, was given along with her
current project list. It was decided upon that two work sessions would take place before
the next meeting (September 4th, 2007 at 3:30 p.m.). One would be August 23rd from
1:30-3:30, where the members would be working directly with the intern, and the other
would be September 4th from 1:30-3:30, right before the next meeting.
FLAG DAY EVENT RECAP
A suggestion by committee members for the event to take place in the evening
next year was proposed to the members to increase citizen participation.
1914 TOWN HALL OPEN HOUSE PLAN
The suggestion of bringing Jenny, the historic fire truck, and a police cruiser onto
the lawn next to the 1914 Town Hall was proposed to draw more attention. The dates of
October 4th (4-6:00 p.m.) and 7th (11-1:00 p.m.) were set for the open house. The motion
was proposed by Jean Funk and seconded by Gin Knight with unanimous consent from
all present members.
2008 BUDGET REQUEST
Foote indicated that the 2008 Historical budget had been submitted on behalf of
the members and also mentioned two particular items requested in 2008 included signage
for a location that was prominent in 1858, the founding year for the State of Minnesota,
which will be celebrated in 2008. Members discussed possibilities that might be
considered. One idea was to develop a historical marker and conduct an historical
celebration at the site of “Stark’s” Halfway House which was established in 1854
(approximately 150 years ago) with a potential Wells Fargo Bank Stagecoach present as
this site was originally a stagecoach stop, half way between Hastings and St Paul.
Funding for another intern was also included.
OTHER BUSINESS
Building on previous discussion, Mike Scott indicated that Starks may be moving
their business and that Dart Transit is interested in the property. Members discussed a
number of related thoughts and questioned whether the building would qualify to be
listed on the National Register? Mike will follow up on Starks and Community
Development and determine where they are in the process.
Mike Scott introduced himself to the Committee along with his family history
within Eagan regarding the his being a descendant of James Scott, the owner of Scott’s
General Store at Nicols; Mike’s father, George Scott having been and Eagan firefighter;
his sister, Linda Myhre who was a firefighter and is now a Police Detective for Eagan;
and more.
