Foote also noted some farming items had been regrouped or mounted on walls in the Town Hall for better viewing. MN 150 CELEBRATION GRANTS INFORMATION AND PARTICIPATION DISCUSSION Foote stated there are grants available from the Minnesota Historical Society for the 150th celebration of Minnesota which will take place next year. The Committee discussed the grants. Members again discussed the possibilities of doing an historical Marker sign at a location that is at least 150 years old, and holding a dedication or celebration of some type. Ideas discussed were: Red River Trail (Highway 13), Fort Snelling, Minnesota River Area, Blackdog Village, Half-Way House and Holz Farm. Members questioned when the land along the Eagan side of the river became State Park land? DesLauriers noted the 1970 dedication of the state park near the boat landing and the Cedar end of Trunk Highway 13. He stated that he and his family rode horses in a parade at the dedication. Historical Committee October 2, 2007/2 The Committee discussed other ideas for the 150th anniversary. The Committee elected to bring this item back to the November meeting for further discussion. The deadline for the micro grants is December 7. IDEAS FOR EAGAN’S 150TH CELEBRATION IN 2010 Foote introduced the item stating Eagan’s 150th anniversary will take place in 2010. It was noted at Eagan’s 125th celebration, a turkey roast and community picnic celebration were held; buttons and t-shirts were sold and there were fireworks. Foote read some suggestions from Intern Samantha including updating the Lone Oak Book, creating another version of the history cards, creating the Virtual History Museum online, creating a calendar with significant dates in Eagan’s history, holding a parade or buggy-rides/old vehicle-rides on original milk route, among others. Wachter suggested planting 150 trees in celebration of Eagan’s 150th anniversary. OTHER BUSINESS Foote gave an update on Helen Kennedy who she recently spoke with. Kennedy is doing well and living in Inver Grove Heights. Hazel stated that she had acquired some barn wood from a machine shed on the old Heuer Farm on Lexington Avenue that was being taken down.
