APPROVALO OF MAY 6, 2008 AND JULY 1, 2008 MINUTES The July 1, 2008 minutes were amended to include Gin Knight in attendance. CEDARVALE MALL PHOTO / HISTORY FROM BURTON FRAME SHOP Foote introduced Suzanne Schmitt from Burton’s Frame Shop as a guest. Suzanne Schmitt brought several photos of the Cedarvale Mall for the Historical Society. The photos are approximately 1990s era. She also suggested the newspaper should do a story about people’s memories of the Cedarvale Mall. Schmitt recalls the Donald Duck ride outside the mall. Schmitt stated she will provide information regarding framing costs and will price at a 50 percent off the retail price. She will also donate a Lone Oak tree print to the Historical Society. SET OPEN HOUSE DATE / SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2008 Hazel made a motion to schedule an open house for Sunday, October 5, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Krech seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. NWA HISTORY BOOK Wade stated the general manager of his building complex made a connection for him with Northwest Airlines and he was able to tour the “museum” located on 34th Avenue near the airport. He found that NWA has produced two history books. The museum guide stated the books are not for the general public, but Wade was able to purchase two NWA history books, for the Historical Society. The books also included a DVD video about their history. Foote noted Wade will be reimbursed for the cost of the books. SCOTT’S GENERAL STORE / NICOLS AREA 2008: Simpson and Hazel stated they went to Dakota County Historical Society and asked what information DHS might have about Scott’s General Store and the Cedarvale Mall. Simpson and Hazel brought back drawings, photo copies of newspaper articles and maps that the Eagan Society does not possess. Historical Committee August 5, 2008 EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT IDEAS The Committee discussed ideas for an Eagle Scout project as Foote has received two recent requests for projects. With only two ideas, railing repairs and sign repair, the Committee decided not to recommend any projects at this time as these may be impacted by other maintenance work the building requires which cannot be accomplished by Scouts. NEXT MEETING The next meeting of the Eagan Historical Society will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. in the Eagan Room. ADJOURNMENT Upon motion by Simpson, seconded by Voracek, the meeting was adjourned. All members voted in favor.
