EAGAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY
TUESDAY
OCTOBER 7, 2008
3:30 p.m. – EAGAN ROOM
A regular meeting of the Eagan Historical Committee was held on Tuesday, October 7, 2008
at 3:30 p.m. in the Eagan Room at Eagan City Hall. Members present were: Kim Hazel, Gin
Knight, Mary Ellen Voracek, Millie Gignac, Nancy Ingerson and Dawn Simpson. Also present was
Communication Coordinator Foote.
APPROVAL OF SEPTEMBER 2, 2008 MINUTES
The minutes of the September 2, 2008 Eagan Historical Society meeting were approved as
presented.
OPEN HOUSE RECAP
Foote introduced the item and stated approximately 100 people attended. The Committee
discussed the open house and noted one Lone Oak Years book was sold and none of the History on
Deck playing cards was sold but at least one straight donation was made ($24 total).
COMMUNITY PHOTO PROJECT
The Committee discussed the Community Photo Project, collection sites and dates people
could bring in old photos of Eagan. The Committee discussed the Community Room at the
Community Center as a collection site. They also discussed scanning photos and suggested asking
This Week Newspaper if they would be interested in helping scan the photos. The Committee
looked at available dates for the project. Gignac agreed to ask the Eagan Senior Board if the
Historical Society could partner with their Antique Assessment Show in April and/or a monthly Pot
Luck Luncheon in March for this project as they already draw nice participation at each of these
events.
Foote noted she purchased a print of a photograph of the Lost Spur property from the MN
Historical Society Web site.
RECONSIDER 2008 SIGN SELECTION DUE TO LOCATION ISSUES
The Committee discussed Scott’s General Store/Nicols area and Patrick Eagan signs. Foote
noted that while a good deal of information and great photos have been gathered regarding the
Scott’s General Store/Nicols area, there is no ideal place to post this sign currently. So, she is
recommending that a sign regarding the Patrick Eagan Farm/homestead site be created and posted at
Eagan Municipal Center for 2008. The group agreed to further discussion about a marker for 2009.
Historical Committee
October 7, 2008
Voracek made a motion to approve a historical marker sign located on the Patrick Eagan
property on the City Hall campus. Simpson seconded the motion. All members voted in favor.
OTHER
Simpson brought in a DVD of Rosemount’s history which was made for the Rosemount
Historical Society’s 150th celebration. At the November History Committee meeting, the
Committee will discuss the idea of Eagan making a DVD for Eagan’s 2010 (150th Anniversary)
Celebration.
It was noted to update the three-ring binder so it reflects correct information on Dawn
Simpson’s house, the old Heuer farm, that it was actually built in 1938 and not in 1942 as is printed.
NEXT MEETING
The next meeting of the Eagan Historical Society will be held on Tuesday, November 18,
2008 at 3:30 p.m. in the Eagan Room.
