EAGAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY
TUESDAY, MAY 6, 2008
3:30 p.m. – EAGAN ROOM
A regular meeting of the Eagan Historical Committee was held on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at
3:30 p.m. in the Eagan Room at Eagan City Hall. Members present were: Kim Hazel, Millie
Gignac, Ray Wade, Alyce Bolke, Mary Ellen Voracek, Martin DesLauriers, Nancy Ingerson,
Linda Bendt, Dawn Simpson and Carolyn Krech. Also present was Communication Coordinator
Foote.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the April 1, 2008 Eagan Historical Society meeting were approved as
presented.
TOWN HALL SIGN DEDICATION & OPEN HOUSE ACTIVITIES – JUNE 1
Foote introduced the item and stated she placed a “work order” to have the Town Hall
cleaned and the flag put up prior to the Open House. Hazel, Gignac, Simpson, Voracek and
Ingerson volunteered to meet at the Town Hall on Tuesday, May 27 at 1:30 p.m. to verify the
displays for the Open House are complete. Foote stated the Open House event will appear on the
electronic sign board and also stated she will do press releases for local newspapers regarding the
event.
Hazel volunteered to bring the cookies and lemonade. DesLauriers will emcee the
dedication of the historical sign. The Open House will run from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with the
sign dedication taking place at noon. It was suggested to check on the supply on pencils, the Lone
Oak Tree books and the History on Deck playing cards prior to the event.
NEXT HISTORICAL MARKER
Foote noted the next historical marker will be for Scott’s General Store and/or the Nicols
area. DesLauriers and the Committee discussed Club 13 which later became Harold’s Dairy Store
and was located on Beau d Rue Drive. DesLauriers stated that Reo Beudette owned the store and
his daughter, Maxine, helped run it and noted that Harold’s Dairy Store later became Shaddock’s
Dairy. There was a discussion on the families that owned Club 13/Harold’s Dairy Store.
DesLauriers stated that there could be a map on the sign showing Scott’s General Store and the
Nicols Station locations if the sign was not put in the original area (as this area is now fairly
remote). The Committee further discussed several locations near the Nicols area for the marker.
Foote noted Wayne Schwanz and his mother would possibly be attending the July meeting.
Foote noted a 16 page document that was given to her by Mike Scott and possibly written by
Liz Kenneally entitled “Nicols 1900 to 1980 the Life and Death of a Most Unusual Town”. She

stated that Mike Scott’s aunt has done research on the Nicols area. She further stated a marker
could be placed in the Cedar Grove area 2009 or wait until the 150th anniversary of Eagan which is
in 2010. Foote stated she would like to tour the areas discussed today with DesLauriers prior to
him leaving again this winter.
Foote suggested a timeline of late August to order the marker and to have it installed by
mid-September and then dedicated by the end of September.
SESQUICENTENNIAL PLANTING
Foote stated it is Minnesota’s sesquicentennial this year and shared that Voracek suggested
doing a planting near the Deerwood water tower, similar to the planting that was done in 1999 for
the City’s silver anniversary. She stated the planting done in 1999 was coordinated by the Eagan
Convention & Visitors Bureau. Foote stated she has talked with the City’s foresters and utilities
personnel and they would have to find a way to keep it watered once the plantings are complete.
She further stated she had checked prices on the plantings and it was over $1500, not including
summer maintenance. The Committee agreed to relook at the idea for Eagan’s 150th anniversary.
OTHER
The Committee signed a sympathy card to send to Gin Knight. The Committee also
discussed sharing contact information and addresses with Committee members.

The next meeting of the Eagan Historical Society will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at
3:30 p.m. The Committee members voted to not hold a formal June 3 because of the Open House.

members voted in favor.
