I. Roll Call and Agenda: Members present: Ted Wachter, Alyce Bolke, Martin DesLauriers, Dawn Simpson, Millie Gignac, Mary Ellen Voracek, Gin Knight, Kim Hazel, Joan Remick-Kennedy, Bea Blomquist, Guest Ted Ringberg, and staff member Joanna Foote. Meeting Secretary: Gin Knight volunteered to be secretary II. Historical Society Business: A. Open Houses at Historic Town Hall Thursday, September 10th from 4 to 6 p.m., and on Sunday, September 13th from 11-1. Photo Scanning will be done. Joanna will be in attendance at the Thursday evening event as well as volunteers and again on Sunday, the 13th. Cookies and Juice will be provided. Gin will handle. B. Photo Scanning Scanning will be done at both Open Houses mentioned above. In addition, it will be done in conjunction with the Senior’s Pot Luck on September 30th 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. C. Eagan Sesquicentennial Planning Joanna stated that the Convention and Visitors Bureau will make a donation to the event. One event under consideration is an Eagan Reunion of original Eagan residents/families from near and far – as well as residents currently living in Eagan – old and young. This would tie in with the Convention and Visitors Bureau’s promotion of the City and its amenities, i.e. availability of hotels, restaurants, etc. Some of the events will be centered around the 4th of July celebration. The Historical Society may wish to consider an Open House at that time. As part of the 150th Celebration, an artist may be hired to make a (cartoon) map of Eagan commemorating places of historical note. The Historical Society may has been asked to provide possible locations to highlight on the map. D. Patrick Eagan Park/McCarthy Property Historical Marker Historical Committee September 1, 2008 Dawn called Pat McCarthy and he returned her call by coming to her home with two pictures; one of cows in a pasture and another of “Snowflake The Bull”. He did not have any pictures of farm buildings or the residence. He apparently expressed his interest in working with the history society in regards to his property and family. It was pointed out that the park was named after Patrick Eagan, but the lake was named McCarthy Lake. Dawn also did research on the Heuer families. She talked to Elaine (Heuer?) and Elaine felt it was a wonderfully idea to have a historical marker of this type. E. Other Dakota County Historical Society would like to have someone from the Eagan Historical Society come to their Board Meetings. Millie asked that our next month’s meeting date (Tuesday, October 6th) be changed because that was the day of the Senior Expo at the Community Center. She hoped most of us would be able to attend the Expo. Our September meeting will be changed to Wednesday, October 7. Gin showed the members the book the two interns compiled last December listing all of the artifacts at the Historic Town Hall; an Accession Number was assigned to each item and photos were taken where possible. The interns also scanned many photos that were in the Historical Society files. Kim suggested making up a laminated card with the pictures of City Hall and/or the Historical Town Hall to be given to the public at the 150th celebration. Gin suggested we tape our meetings in the future, just for the record, as the minutes cannot cover all the information and stories discussed. Joanna expressed concern as ther is no one to transcribe the information so the tapes are then just dated and sit in a box to be filed and are of little use. Martin introduced our guest, Ted Ringberg, who is a long time resident of Cedar Grove and was an early volunteer Firefighter and one of Eagan’s Fire Chiefs. He is interested in joining our group. He has a great interest in history and has done research and microfiche for the Dakota County Historical Society and others. Welcome Ted! III. Adjourn: Martin made the motion that the meeting be adjourned at 5:06 P.M.; Kim seconded it. Our next meeting date – Wednesday, October 7th, 2009 at 3:30 P.M. vk Historical Committee September 1, 2008
