EAGAN SESQUICENTENNIAL PLANNING
Foote introduced the item. It was noted that on January 9th from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. there will be
birthday party at the Eagan Community Center to kick off Eagan’s 150th Year celebration. She
has spoken with several of the members of Eagan’s original families to help unveil the 150th logo
at the event and Linda Schwanz who will be 95 years old and was born in Nicols and Don
Chapdelaine who was born and still lives on the original Eagan farm of his grandfather will assist
with the unveiling.
The Committee discussed the 150th celebration DVD and how to begin compiling photosto put
on it. They further discussed interviewing old families in Eagan and who they would like to
consider for interviews. Foote also reminded the group that it has converted the 8 mm movie
footage of Ted Wachter and family on his farm and it has some other interviews with Eagan
residents which might be incorporated into the planning. Foote also noted there are taped
interviews with the first four Eagan Police Chiefs and Anna Carlson the wife of Arnie Carlson,
the developer of the Carlson Lake area. Ted Ringberg stated there is a tape of the 25th
anniversary of the Fire Department and commented on interviews of retired Firemen telling
humorous stories of years past.
Jeff Ongstad of Eagan Television discussed some of the capabilities they have in creating the
video and timing for when the group might want this project to be finished. The group
determined it would like it completed as early as possible within the 150th year, but no later than
fall so it can coordinate and host a “Premier” event for the public’s first viewing. Dawn
Simpson, Kim Hazel, Joan Remick Kennedy, Millie Gignac and Carolyn Krech are working on
coordinating the photos and the outline for the video.
Ongstad also suggested that interviews with “Eagan old timers” might be coordinated within a
single day at the studios so we could get several good quality interviews, all at once.
HISTORICAL MARKER
Foote brought the completed version of the Dodd Road historical Marker which is now with the
sign maker and indicated it will be installed in the spring at Dodd Road and the Highline trail
(near Wilderness Run Road).
The Committee discussed historical markers for the 2010 to include Patrick Eagan
Park/McCarthy property and the Starks Halfway House. The group also discussed the possibility
of adding Tousinaught Inn/Valley Lounge site to the list for future Historical markers as that
business has also been in operation for more than 100 years.
