Document - Historical Society Minutes - Eagan Historical Society Minutes 02022010 - 2/2/2010MEETING NOTES/MINUTES EAGAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY TUESDAY FEBRUARY 2, 2010 3:30 p.m. – EAGAN ROOM Members present: Dawn Simpson, Kim Hazel, Mary Ellen Voracek, Gin Knight, Joan Remick Kennedy and Millie Gignac. Staff present: Communication Coordinator Joanna Foote RECAP OF BIRTHDAY PARTY AND BOOTH Foote introduced the item and gave a brief recap of the 150th birthday party and asked members to recap the activity at the Historical Society table. Gignac noted disappointment that the events all seemed to take place in the atrium rather than the room where tables were and that many people did not seem to realize this. She noted that all cards (about 10 boxes) and three books were sold and we should have had more books on hand. The three Historical Society member that staffed the table said they spoke with a good number of people. UPDATE ON PHOTO/VIDEO PROJECT Simpson gave an update on two photo workshops that were held and stated they have begun to choose photos for the photo/video project. Kennedy stated she will follow up to see if the Sibley House in Mendota may have a Patrick Eagan photo or any document containing his signature. It was noted that Elaine Piche continues looking for photos of the McCarthy property for the next interpretive sign. The Committee set February 16 and March 2 at 2:00 p.m. as dates to work on the photos. Director of Communications Garrison was present and gave an update on what is being planned for the State of the City Address noting it will be held on March 5, 2010 at the Eagan Community Center from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. He also discussed another video project and stated there will be a re-enactment at the State Legislature of the Act declaring Eagan a township and the Governor’s proclamation of “Eagan Day”. Kennedy suggested making a list of people with whom to conduct historical interviews at E-TV. Foote agreed to add this to the agenda for the March meeting. OPEN HOUSES Foote introduced the item and, after further discussion, it was agreed to hold open houses on Sunday, June 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Thursday September 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. and Sunday, September 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday, October 24 at 1 p.m. The Committee also noted that the Haunted places talk will be held on Sunday, October 24 at 2 p.m. and that day’s Open House will be one hour in advance. FEBRUARY GANGSTER EVENT There was Committee discussion about holding a Gangster talk/event for February at Starks but Foote had not heard anything back from the folks at Starks as of yet. The group determined that timing did not allow for this event to be coordinated in February but it might be considered at another time. OCTOBER HAUNTED PLACES EVENT Foote noted that as determined in the Open Houses discussion, the haunted house/places event will be held at the Eagan Fire Administration building at 2 p.m. on October 24, 2010 with the one hour Open House in advance of the talk. DODD ROAD SIGN DEDICATION Foote stated the Dodd Road sign dedication will be held this spring once the sign can be placed at the site which is at Dodd Road and the Highline Trail (just north of Wilderness Run Road). The Committee discussed the dedication event including whether it should be held in conjunction with the kids from the nearby elementary school and/or if they should serve ice cream as a part of the dedication. Further discussion will be held. VIDEO PREMIER The Committee discussed holding the video premier in the fall; September 16 or 19 or perhaps in conjunction with the October Gala being planned as a finale event by the 150th Committee. NEXT MEETING DATE The next meeting of the Eagan Historical Society will be Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 4:49 p.m.
