Document - Historical Society Minutes - Eagan Historical Society Minutes 04062010 - 4/6/2010MEETING NOTES/MINUTES EAGAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY TUESDAY APRIL 6, 2010 3:30 p.m. – EAGAN ROOM Members present: Kim Hazel, Alyce Bolke, Millie Gignac, Bernie Jansen, Gin Knight, Joan Remick Kennedy, Ted Ringberg and Chad Roberts. Also present was Communication Coordinator Joanna Foote. Vice-Chair Gin Knight chaired the meeting and the meeting was brought to order. WELCOME AND REMARKS FROM DAKOTA COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY DIRECTOR, CHAD ROBERTS AND BOARD MEMBER BERNIE JANSEN Chad Roberts, Director of the Dakota County Historical Society, and Bernie Jansen, Board Member of the Dakota County Historical Society, introduced themselves and discussed the Dakota County Historical Society, its Museum and the Leduc House. It was noted to send agendas to Roberts and Jansen at the Dakota County Historical Society and that Jensen plans to attend as a regular member of the Eagan historical Society. The Dakota County Historical Society is pleased to provide support for and to partner with Eagan during sesquicentennial and beyond.  Dakota County is hosting an Author and other upcoming events  Current exhibits – Scandinavian immigration at the Northern Service Center  A Somali exhibit and a Lebanese display  Can provide family history/genealogy assistance UPDATE ON PHOTO/VIDEO PROJECT Foote stated she would like to set dates at the E-TV studios for interviews of Eagan residents. She is hopeful the dates can be in the last week of April or first couple weeks of May and asks members to let he know about availability and/or conflict she should try to schedule around. She will work with E-TV to set dates and contact members and interviewees. Foote stated she will send Director Roberts the request for photo text to be included in the Dakota County Historical Society publications. NEXT HISTORICAL MARKER Foote stated she will attempt to get Red Pine Elementary School students to see if they are interested in participating in a sign dedication for the Dodd Road Historical Marker during the first week of June, 2010. Members again discussed the possibility of the Society and/or the Century Families being represented in the 4th of July parade. Identified items that would need to be coordinated include: • Vehicle to ride in or on (i.e. a convertible or car(s) for smaller group or Flatbed truck /wagon if larger group • Available members on July 4th • How to invite and whom to invite to ride in said vehicles OTHER BUSINESS Foote mentioned a meeting she and the Parks and Recreation (Market Fest) staff had attended with staff of This Week Newspapers. This week staff spoke of working with Eagan Historical Society as they had with the Dakota County Historical Society to do something similar to the “Pages from the Past” which might include stories about Eagan’s history (newly written) or clippings from past This Week and Dakota County Tribunes. The group can discuss whether members would like to work on this project. Lillian Pisch sent some photos of the McCarthy family to Dawn Simpson and continues to look for more that would relate to the McCarthy family and property for an Historical Marker to be assembled for placement at Patrick Eagan Park. Simpson will continue to update the group. NEXT MEETING DATE The next meeting of the Eagan Historical Society will be Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 4:55 p.m.
