Document - Historical Society Minutes - Eagan Historical Society Minutes 10052010 - 10/5/2010MEETING NOTES/MINUTES EAGAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY TUESDAY OCTOBER 5, 2010 3:30 p.m. – EAGAN ROOM Members present: ,Chair Mary Ellen Voracek, Millie Gignac, Ted Ringberg, Martin DesLauriers, Kim Hazel, Bernie Jansen, Dawn Simpson, Bea Blomquist, Alyce Bolke, Joan Rogers and Joe Reid. Also present was Communication Coordinator Joanna Foote. AGENDA ADOPTION Simpson made a motion to approve the August 3, 2010 and September 7, 2010 minutes of the Eagan Historical Society as presented. Blomquist seconded the motion. All members voted in favor. It was noted that Joan Rogers, who is new to the Committee, is related to Michael Ried and Ed Ried. She brought a photo album of her family history to share with members. Foote and Simpson will coordinate a time to scan these items for the Society collection. Joe Reid (Cousin to Joan) also brought copies of several Reid and Quigley family photos to add to the Society collection. KNIGHT MEMORIAL BENCH The Committee discussed the memorial bench and plaque for Gin (O’Hearn) Knight. There was further discussion regarding the plaque wording and it was suggested we include the year she was hired by the Eagan Police Department. Foote stated to the Committee that the Gin Knight memorial funds must be spent within the year 2010. She is looking into any possibility that this can be altered but at this point, we must make plans for the funding to be used before December 31. 1914 TOWN HALL SIGN The Committee discussed the 1914 Town Hall sign and the possibility of moving it parallel to the roadway as funding can provide a nicer one-sided sign than a two sided sign. The Committee also voted by majority to select a brown/tan-ish sign background rather than green. GRANT APPLICATION CONSIDERATION The Committee suggested that any memorial funds remaining be used to pay for a grant application to be made to the State. Simpson has supplied a name of an individual who is a grant wrighter and has secured several Land and Legacy grants for another organization. She would charge $700 to complete an application on behalf of the Historical Society. Foote is researching another option for comparison. VIDEO INTERVIEWS Foote introduced the item and shared information regarding the videos, footage, photos and voice interviews that were being put together to be shown at the Taste of Eagan Event on October 14, 2010. The Committee discussed the details of the event. Additional work will be done and additional interviews conducted in order to complete the video. TIME CAPSULE Foot introduced the item stating donations are coming in for the 50 year (2060) Time Capsule. She also stated the deadline for donations is October 29, 2010. Foote noted that residents are also being encouraged to participate in leaving a “note/wish” to be included in the capsule.
