AGENDA ADOPTION
All members voted in favor of approving the minutes of the November 9, 2010 regular meeting of
the Eagan Historical Society as presented.
Dawn Simpson was the meeting Secretary for the December 7, 2010.
TOWN HALL BENCH & SIGN
Foote introduced the item stating the Town Hall bench has been received and it was noted that the
patio next to the 1914 Town Hall, on which the bench will be placed, is complete and pots and
plantings will be added in the spring. It was further noted that the new sign for the 1914 Town
Hall is complete but has not yet been delivered. It also will be installed and landscaped in the
spring.
TIME CAPSULE
The Committee discussed the Time Capsule and the items to be placed in it. Gignac and Bernie
Jansen volunteered to help determine which items to be added to the capsule. Rebecca Snyder,
from the Dakota County Historical Society, has also been enlisted to help. It was noted that an
article appeared in the Dakota County Tribune regarding the Eagan Time Capsule.
The Committee further discussed the Time Capsule and its logistics. It will be installed into the
wall at the New Fire Administration Building with a stone plaque noting the Time Capsule is to be
opened in 2060 during Eagan’s Bicentennial.
HISTORICAL MARKERS
Foote introduced the item. Simpson continues to work on finding the homestead papers for the
McCarthy’s, Eagan’s and others property related to the Patrick Eagan Park site and discussed land
patents and naturalization papers or other items that would provide an interesting visual display for
this marker.
Foote noted that she is working on another marker related to the naming of Robbers Ravine Park
which relates to the story in the Lone Oak Years book, told by Martin DesLauriers and his aunt
regarding the Jessie James gang coming through the Quigley farm (Martin’s Grandfathers
property) on their way to rob the Northfield bank.
Foote also noted she is working on a marker that depicts information about wood beams from
Eagan’s first City Hall/Police Department which sat at the site of the present Fire Administration
building at Wescott and Pilot Knob Roads. The beams from that building support the roof of the
picnic shelter at the Lexington/Diffley Athletic Fields.
GRANT APPLICATION
Foote noted there was no news on the grant application to report.
OTHER
Eagan’s first ladies – Bill Wohlston who works with Dakota County Historical and prepares the
“90-seconds of History” videos will be conducting an interview with Pat Diffley and is asking for a
list of other noteable Eagan women. The Committee mentioned that Bea Blomquist, Linda Myre,
Helen Kennedy, Alice Bolke and Lori Tripp are all featured within the “First Ladies of Eagan
Display and would be good candidates for interviews.
Hazel, Remick-Kennedy and Voracek secured the Adelmann sign for the Historical Society
collection and the group will need to determine where best to locate it for display or storage.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion by Bernie Jansen, seconded by Hazel, the meeting adjourned at 4:37 p.m. All members
voted in favor.
