EAGAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY
TUESDAY
MAY 3, 2011
3:30 p.m. – EAGAN ROOM
Members present: Ted Ringberg, Bernie Jansen, Mary Ellen Voracek, Kim Hazel, Joan Remick Kennedy,
Jean Jannsen, Fire Chief Scott, Ron Erickson and Lori Tripp. Also present was Communication Coordinator
Joanna Foote.
TOUR OF FIRE SAFETY CENTER HISTORICAL WALL AND TIME CAPSULE BAY
Fire Chief Scott gave an overview of the new Fire Safety Center and its functions.
The facility serves as
• Station No. 2
• Fire Training Facility
o Smoke filled room
o Ladder training
• Fire Administration
• Emergency Operations Center
• Police evidence
• Police sub-station
• Fire dorm for six firefighters
• Health East ambulance
• Is Green Globes Certified (environmental building recognition)
The Committee discussed the historical components and how they were incorporated into the building. The
Committee toured the history portions of the Fire Safety Center.
SHOWCASE EAGAN EVENT / DISPLAY FOR JUNE 2
Foote introduced the item stating items from the Old Town Hall must be selected by the History Committee
for the booth and display for the Showcase Eagan event on May 31, 2011. (Later determined to meet June 1,
at 3:30 p.m.).
Volunteers to staff the Historical Society boot are needed for the event from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. with about a
half hour before and after for set up and take down.
Remick-Kennedy has been able to secure a large flat panel television from Ergotron (the company at which
she works) for our use at the event so we can create a viewing station for the history videos that have been
produced. This booth will be adjacent to the Historical Society booth.
NEW SIGN AT 1914 TOWN HALL
Foote stated a sign has been installed at the 1914 Town Hall in the landscaping will also include an area for
Ted/Charles Wachter’s milk cart to be secured and displayed during summer months. She stated perhaps a
marker explaining the milk can, etc., can also be placed there.
TIME CAPSULE – FIRE SAFETY CENTER DEDICATION JUNE 23, 2011
Foote noted the Time Capsule has been placed into the wall in the “History Bay” at the Fire Safety Center—
the room that houses Eagan’s first fire truck and other memorabilia. She also noted the Fire Safety Center
Grand Opening and dedication is scheduled for Thursday, June 22, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.and all
members of the Historical Society and the public are invited to attend.
OTHER
Bernie Jansen gave an update and distributed information regarding the volunteer needs at the Dakota County
Historical Society and the LeDuc House.
Hazel brought a news clipping regarding the Eagan Historical Society that recently ran in the Eagan
Thisweek Newspaper.
