Also present was Communication Coordinator Joanna Foote. New member Bruce Bader was introduced and welcomed. He and Remick were neighbors growing up in the Highview neighborhood. MEETING MINUTES & SECRETARY Joanna Foote and Joan Remick Kennedy both took notes for the August 2, 2011 meeting. The minutes of June 7, 2011 were approved by consensus. INTRODUCE HISTORICAL SOCIETY VOLUNTEER The Eagan Historical Society members were informed of their new volunteer, Rehka Ayeva who has been working for several weeks now at copying and organizing several boxes of press clippings that will be organized to into the Society files and eventually made electronic. Ms. Ayeva is originally from the country of Togo, Africa and has lived here with her family for five years. She is presently attending school at St. Mary’s University and saw our ad for a volunteer and called to discuss. Foote states that Ayeva is wonderful to work with and has been making good progress and Ayeva tells her that she is enjoying the work with the Historical Society. Foote hopes that Ayeva will be able to join the group in person at a future meeting. SET TOWN HALL OPEN HOUSE DATES FOR FALL It was discussed that the open house dates for the Town Hall will occur on October 6, 2011 from 4 to 6 p.m. and October 9, 2011from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Lori Tripp made a motion to approve the open house dates. Kim Hazel seconded the motion. INSTALLATION OF ROBBER’S RAVINE MARKER CONSIDER FALL DEDICATION DATE The committee discussed the dedication date of the Robber’s Ravine Marker and suggested that September 15, 2011 or September 22, 2011 should be considered for the fall dedication. It was suggested that the committee speak with Martin DesLauriers about which date works best for him and see if he is willing to present this marker again for the committee before making a final decision. CONSIDER JOINT MEETING WITH HOLZ FARM GROUP The committee discussed a possible partnership with the Holz Farm Group. Committee members were interested in inviting members of the Holz Farm Group to an Eagan Historical Society Meeting to discuss possible partnering options. Partnership is under consideration because at this time as the Holz Farm group has invited the Historical Society to take part in the Lone Oak Days festivities at the end of September. The group did not think it would have interest in staffing a table at the event this year but Foote might be able to assist with a poster or something that could help them commemorate the 100th year of the farm at the event. Foote will let the members know whether the Holz Farm group wishes to attend an upcoming Historical Society meeting. NAME TAGS/BADGE REQUEST It was discussed whether to create permanent or temporary nametags or more permanent badges for the Eagan Historical Society. The society determined that semi-permanent badges would be the best option. Foote will look into name tags that could be printed with the Historical Society logo as well as more long term use badges that could either simply say “Historical Society Volunteer” and the logo or contain a removable or writable location on the name plate. OTHER Kim Hazel asked about progress of the Patrick Eagan Park marker. Foote stated that she has begun doing the layout but is working on what specific information (story) is included on the marker and has several possibilities currently in the works. She is hopeful of having something available for members to look at by the October or November meeting. Ted Ringberg discussed request that was received by the Society from James Yanta to honor his father Rick Yanta who was active with the formation of Cedar Grove Athletic Association. Although the Society is not able to fulfill the specific request made, Ringberg suggested that we could begin a collection of profiles of Eagan Residents like Mr. Yanta so we had the information available as a part of our collection. Ringberg brought an example of a form that could be used and the form was put in next month’s packet to discuss further. Joanna Foote indicated that a Request for Proposals to research and write a history book documenting Eagan from 1974 to 2010 is now in process. Communications staff (Foote included) will be interviewing candidates for the process and work will begin on the book by September. Foot will share progress reports about the book at monthly meetings and may request specific project assistance as the book progresses. She indicated that we may need to do more solicitation for photos from this specific period of Eagan’s Development and perhaps additional scanning sessions. Bruce Bader indicated he has photos of Eagan from that specific timeframe and 8mm film. The group discussed several Eagan locations including the (present) Hansa Electric building on Lexington and Lone Oak, which was Eagan’s original Post Office. It was then moved next door to (north of) that building and finally to the current Post Office location on Lexington and Clubview. Bader and Remick indicated that the Highview Neighborhood Zip Code (in N. Eagan) was 55118. Kim Hazel discussed that Bea Blomquist has her home for sale and has memorabilia she will drop off for the Historical Society. Kim also brought in items from former Eagan Fire Chief, Bob Childers’ Funeral. Bob passed away in July. NEXT MEETING The next meeting scheduled has been moved from September 6, 2011 to September 13, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. at the Eagan Room located at the City of Eagan Municipal Center due to the Labor Day Holiday. ADJOURNMENT Remick made a motion to adjourn the History Committee meeting. Kim seconded the motion. All members voted in favor at 4:53 p.m.
