MEETING MINUTES & SECRETARY Foote took notes for the January 3, 2012 meeting. The minutes from December 6, 2011 were approved and accepted with noted corrections UPDATE REGARDING EAGAN HISTORY BOOK/GRANT PROCESS Foote noted that the author continues to work with Historical Society files and other agency information and will begin interviews shortly. Jansen mentioned he and Gignac and the retirees club would be happy to speak with the author regarding Unisys, Univac, Lockheed Martin if and when that is needed for the book research. Committee discussion led to a question regarding the original path of Sibley Memorial Highway 13 and how that area/roadway has changed over time. When Cedar Ave became Nicols Road with the construction of Cedar Freeway/77, did 13 move as well. Some recalled that 13 may have been the road which is now Cedar Grove Blvd. SCANNING AND FILING Originally the staff and members had discussed the possibility of applying for a grant to have the Historical Society files scanned into an electronic filing system. It now appears there may be a way to have some or all of this process done internally by City staff. Foote will work with Community Development and Park & Recreation staff to evaluate the possibilities of this process. OTHER A. Reid related to the group information about a project he is presently working on with regard to the St. Peter’s Cemetery in Mendota where many Eagan and area residents have been interred for decades. The following is a brief synopsis of his project: Starting with a copy of a printed record from April 1998 documenting burials at St. Peter's Historical Church cemetery in Mendota Heights, Reid is making a new expanded electronic record of information related to the same list of burials. The original record started with the block, lot and grave numbers and added whenever possible the surname, first name, and middle name or initial of the person buried in the specified grave; and, if available, the date of death and date of burial. Reid is inserting in the original record any missing information that he can find. In addition, he is expanding the record by adding the maiden name of married women, the year and date of birth of all persons listed in the record, and if there is one, the certificate number for the Minnesota Historical Society death certificate, the grave number from the 1979 Minnesota Genealogy Society grave stone record, and notes regarding obituaries or other significant personal data. He will make a copy of the completed version available to the Eagan Historical Society and the Dakota County Historical Society as well as updated versions of the record when he adds new information to the record. Reid provided a sample sheet in hopes they would be at the meeting today, showing the families of McCarthy and DesLauriers information B. Jansen said that he is still proceeding with the work of donation of artifacts from Lockheed Martin to the Dakota County Historical Society at South St. Paul Museum. C. Committee will consider doing field trips in 2012 beginning with the South St. Paul DCHS and the Leduc House in Hastings. NEXT MEETING The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. in the Eagan Room, located at the City of Eagan Municipal Center.
