2013 Projects List
With remaining 2012 funding Foote purchased a 22” flat screen TV with a DVD player which will be used at
the 1914 Town Hall and will be easy to move from location to location as needed.
Historical Markers were discussed and Foote indicated that the Patrick Eagan sign is lacking the finishing
pieces and Janssen is still looking for a photo.
Foote suggested maybe a marker for the Fire Department because it is celebrating their 50th Anniversary this
year. Marker could be located at either Station 1as it is the first or Station 2 as it is the Fire Administration
Center and the newest location, receiving the most public.
Members talked about doing something to mark Cedarvale “in the day”. Ringberg stated that he had a picture
of the grand opening of Cedarvale available.
Other marker project that were discussed included the Grandfather Tree to distinguish it from the Lone Oak
Tree, Wescott station area, Touch and Go field, Lexington Diffley Athletic Field picnic shelter which is
constructed with the beams from the first City Hall.
Foote has a marker created on paper for Nicols Station, it is just a matter of finding a good location for it.
The sign for Patrick Eagan Park was mentioned as a project members could assist with. Foote said she has a
PDF file that she can email to Kennedy and Reid who volunteered to work on finalizing this project.
Reid indicated he will work on a display for the City Hall case which will highlight the Reid farm and
Lockheed Martin which would correspond to the information he has written about the history of that property.
Rivamonte talked about the seniors partnering with Historical Society members and working together on
projects or events. She discussed the projects they have done in the past and how both the History Committee
members and the senior could benefit. The seniors will be hosting a May birthday party for the 10th
anniversary of the Community Center. They are thinking about having Kay Brown read her grandfather’s tree
book. Members indicated interest in partnering with the 55+/Seniors on this event. Foote indicated the groups
might also consider joint events and hosting speakers. One idea is a speaker regarding the gangsters that
frequented this area, some are said to have hung out at Starks. This might be a good location at which to host
such an event.
