Eagan Historical Society Report to DCHS Board – October 2014
Update on 1914 Town Hall Recovery /Transition Planning
At its September 9 workshop, the Eagan City Council reviewed the refined specifications, alternatives and
cost estimates for the 1914 Town Hall restoration. Three options were presented:
• Repair the building on site
• Move the building to the Eagan Municipal Center Campus and repair it on that site
• Move the building to the Eagan Municipal Center Campus and include a basement level solely to
house HVAC/mechanicals and repair the building on that site
Following discussion which included information regarding a separate space needs assessment that has
been authorized for the Eagan Municipal Center, result expected back in late October, the City Council
continued further discussion until the November 12 Special Council Workshop.
1914 Town Hall 100 Year Celebration – Monday, September 8, 4 – 7 p.m.
The Eagan Historical Society held an event to commemorate the 100 Years of the 1914 Town Hall on September
8, 2014 on the Town Hall grounds. Several hundred people attended, viewed historical displays, enjoyed
complimentary root beer floats and watched the formal presentation of an original oil painting. The painting
entitled “Old Eagan Town Hall” was created by local artist Larry Landis to commemorate the building’s 100th
year and depicts the building and local townsfolk as it likely looked in 1914.
The painting was later presented at the Eagan City Council meeting on Tuesday, October 9 and will be displayed
for the public.
Limited edition canvas prints are available to purchase for $120.00 each through the end of the year. Paper
