HISTORICAL SOCIETY BUSINESS
1914 Town Hall Building Reconstruction
Foote gave an update on the progress of the 1914 Town Hall. Parkos Construction is about two
weeks into the project and it is moving along smoothly. They are predicting a completion date
(without landscaping) of Thanksgiving 2015.
In one or two weeks the roof will be removed and repaired. It will be covered while work is being
done. The architect’s landscape plan will have to be revised as the State Historical Preservation
Organization (SHPO) indicates it was too opulent for the character of 1914 site. Alternative projects
include additional exterior light, security, parking lot expansion, air conditioning, an out building with
bathroom/small office (not necessarily listed by priority).
Foote discussed the possibilities of additional display cases, or history related timelines and other
items.
Fundraising
On September 9th, a select group of approximately twenty five guests have been invited to City Hall
to attend a meeting with City Staff. The focus is to build a fundraising team/committee. These
participates have expressed an interest in the project, have indicated an interest in donating, have
been identified as having a fundraising skill and/or are affiliated with a group or business that might
be interested in the project.
Streets Alive Event
Event will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015, 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., located at Eagan Outlets
Parkway near the new Outlets Mall. Ringberg drew a map showing the area for the event setup and
reviewed it with the committee. Foote and committee discussed scheduling, activities, items to
show and alternative plans if inclement weather hits. A dance instructor with students has been
added and will demonstrate some dances. The group may take orders for canvasses, prints, books
and cards at Streets Alive.
DCHS Update
DCHS has received thirty one applications for new Executive Director. Five have been selected and
four have responded. They hope to have the position filled in about six weeks.
DCHS has a signed agreement with the State of Minnesota to take over management of the Sibley
Site which include three different structures and out buildings. This includes the Faribault House,
DuPuis House plus an additional building. Andrew Fox will be temporary site manager, with a
contract for next two years. DCHS will be providing the volunteers.
Other
Committee discussed considering a public meeting/event for citizens called “Talk about History”
when OTH is completed. Foote also discussed the interest that has been generated on Facebook
regarding the OTH.
